Welcome to DoomsDay - it's time to wipe out the word AntiVirus from my dictionary (and vocabulary) when BitDefender-like-software start flanking the 90-mark threshold. :o

Ah well, looks like this post is a bright spark to flame the war of the n00bs.

Using Avast feels good. But in real, it's a software hogger, it slows down anything you execute. And as of now, even it's malware removal capability looks weak. This is not something I expect from an AV.

Ah well, looks like this post is a bright spark to flame the war of the n00bs.

you shouldn't be surprised by this mate, mostly because the entire thing is sham, smoke and mirrors to get you into thinking their product is the 'absolute best'

'av' today, like any other brand, is an ongoing battle market-wise between these corporate giants...if we can call them that

and like any other company that wants to make its brand known world-wide, they turn to marketing campaigns to advertise their shit.

the 'promoters' in our case turn out to be these av 'benchmark comparatives' sites that supposedly test every popular av and at the end showcases the winner.

but this is just a front, in truth most of the avs are about the same...it just has to do with how 'much' money you give these sites to bump your product in the rankings.

so if Eset where to pay 5k more dollars than kaspersky, then Eset would've been the winner with higher detection rates and so on and with that money Eset could tell these sites to bring down the competition a few notches in the rankings.

this way

> everybody thinks #1 av is best

> everybody buys #1 av cause well...it's best av

> company that made best av fapps to their revenue

> profit.mp3

It doesn't Avast is worse than Kaspersky or Bitdefender is better than Eset, it just means those companies paid 'more'

why dint they include norton in the test, eset and kaspersky are both there

As I read in their forum:

"As Symantec Norton declined to participate in the File Detection Test, we will unfortunately not be able to provide our readers with any test results for Symantec Norton in 2012. Symantec Norton have the option of officially returning to the tests, but only in accordance with the standard conditions, namely that results of all compulsory tests will be published."

"Symantec Norton have indicated that they do not wish to participate in the File Detection Test. AV-Comparatives, based on feedback from our users, regard this test as still being of fundamental importance in evaluating the overall effectiveness of anti-malware software, second only to the Whole Product “Real World” Protection Test (WPT). A product could score highly in the WPT by e.g. blocking known source URLs for malware code, but fail to protect adequately if the malware is already resident on the target computer or arrives through a different channel (e.g., a USB drive). Consequently, AV-Comparatives require all participating manufacturers to take the File Detection Test. If we did not, the results of the other tests might give a misleading picture as to the overall protection offered by a product.

Should you wish to express your opinion to Symantec Norton in this regard, AV-Comparatives will forward mails which are sent to [email protected]

Symantec Norton is always welcome ro rejoin the public annual test series af AV-Comparatives.

Edit/Add: Symantec wants to redirect concerned users to their support forum, where users can give them their feedback: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-In…p/672299/page/9"

If I can reccomend Emsisoft Anti-Malware? I could send you a giveaway key (my friend doesn't use it anymore), it has about 90 days left. ;)

I don't get why they compare free products with paid one's, or they pick a free edition from the first product and a paid version from the second product instead of the free version that is available from the second product though. I don't trust AV-Comparatives, i don't trust anyone, only myself and my personal experiences. We all know that AV-Comparatives gets big dollars for making this and another software better or worse. That Noobs.

AV-C vs. COMODO

What that Comodo guy is saying is just foolish. Here's a tip for you: Melih has been banned from hell lot of forums all over the internet, god knows why, but if you read the actual back story (not the story he is feeding you), you will come to know why he is a total jerk.

Sure, I'm myself a Comodo FW user. But that doesn't mean I will support Melih for throwing the toys out of the pram.

As for Avast free (vs paid), in principal, don't they offer the same basic protection? So when it comes to malware removal or proactive defence, they should offer the same security.
