rudrax
I have recently got my HDD replaced.I went to the service center..there they told that HDD is buggy..so they told me that it will cost 12,000 bucks (indian value) for a 2.5 inch, 5400 rpm, 500 GB SATA HDD..I was just shocked hearing that and then baught a HDD from outside at 4,200 bucks and get all done myself..Everything is fine till now.So, the thing is, my old HDD which was buggy, is there any way to recover the data in it?Here some about that buggy HDD: It was working absolutely fine till I installed a software (win8 Transformation pack 6)..after installing the sh*t, windows core files(responsible for interface) were overwritten by win8 TP6's files and as a result, my interface went inaccessible at any way. Then I restored my whole system but system went slow so I decided to format it..at the time of formatting, I have deleted the recovery partition (which was useless to me b'cz it had 64 bit OS and I am using 32 bit)..after deleting the recovery partition, windows installation don't shows any other partition except the 13 GB recovery partition that I had deleted.Any hardware expert's opinion will be appreciated. ck_kent
Good thinking in not buying your HDD from that service center. You could try using data recovery apps such as Recuva or GetDataBack. You could also use HDDRegenerator to try to fix your buggy HDD.

Without getting detected I can't use Recuve or GetDataBack.

ck_kent
Can't this thing be used via USB except CD/DVD drive..I'm asking this b'cause my DVD combo is dead. You can use Hiren's BootCD in USB and boot from that. I believe HDD Regenerator is included in Hiren's or is it in the Restored edition? You can follow the instructions from the links below for booting Hiren's BootCD from USB: http://www.hiren.inf...tcd-on-usb-disk or http://www.hirensboo...rg/usb-booting/ Good luck btw, you'll need a lot of patience. :)

Administrator DKT27 Posted November 24, 2012 Administrator Share Posted November 24, 2012 1. As noted in previous threads, these service center parts are uselessly expensive. What you did was right.2. Latest Hiren's BootCD may not have HDD Regenerator.3. It seems HDD Regenerator, can run on USB, all by itself. Check it's description: Bootable regenerating flash can be created from the program and used to automatically start regenerating process.4. Never, I repeat, never ever buy a DVD Combo. They are made for going dead. They are the most failing of the optical drives out there. Just put a little more money and get yourself a DVD Writer. I asked about the frequently going dead phenomenon of the combo drive to the service centre..as a solution they told me to use the combo drive as much as I can (sounds weird to me). I asked about the frequently going dead phenomenon of the combo drive to the service centre..as a solution they told me to use the combo drive as much as I can (sounds weird to me). They say the same here. In a way, keep using it regularly to keep it alive might be good, but DVD Combos are POS. Take my HP DVD Writer for example, last time I used it was 6 months - 1 year ago. Inserted the DVD drive and it burned Windows 8 perfectly. I didn't require to use it regularly, I hardly used it but it's still alive. DVD Combos however, use it or not, they fail. I confirmed this with my engineer, he told me that these companies make Combo drives from even cheaper, low quality stuff, as they are not their primary selling product, hence, it's always better to get a Writer. I've used 5-6 optical drives in last 8 years, and 3 of them have been Combo, they all died in no time.

Administrator DKT27 Posted November 24, 2012 Administrator Share Posted November 24, 2012 okay..then give me some place to buy it online. I've never bought anything online. But I'll recommend Ebay or Flipkart. Flipkart doesn't seem to have much stock, so look at Ebay.in.

Administrator DKT27 Posted November 24, 2012 Administrator Share Posted November 24, 2012 Okay I'll look in..till then you tell me the difference between combo drive and DVD writer. Combo = Read DVD, but cannot write DVD. Can only write CD. DVD Writer = Read and Write DVD & CD. Which one you recommend among these? Looks good to me. I'm not an expert in laptop stuff though, so you'll need to decide the brand. Just note, you will have to pay by credit card / Paypal (Paisa Pay), also note the shipping charge.
