Three weeks ago, Microsoft made the final shipping version of Windows 8 available for sale to the general public, either as a software upgrade for an older PC or installed inside a new PC. Today, a software company claims their data shows that Windows 8 has now been installed on over three percent of all Windows PCs worldwide.

This new data comes from Soluto, an Israel-based software company that has released a PC app that helps with PC performance problems. It claims that data from users of that software show that, at the moment, Windows 8 has been installed in 3.12 percent of all Windows PCs. Of that number, just over 50 percent of them have been installed on desktop PCs, with over 44 percent installed on laptops. Just 4.6 percent of Windows 8 units are being used on tablets.

Soluto's data also shows that, of all places, Hungary has the highest percentage of Windows 8 users at 8.9 percent. China is second with seven percent and Australia is third with 4.6 percent. Romania is fourth with 3.7 percent and the US is fifth with 3.4 percent.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said a couple of weeks ago that in its first four days, Windows 8 upgrades had been installed on four million PCs.

Haha, no surprise only 3% of users actually want it. Look what they did to the operating system, they butchered it completely. I hate W8

I would have upgraded from Windows 7 if they left the interface the same as it was in 7. Improve the performace and reliability of the OS and such and make it more powerful for us.

- I don't know why all this hatred towards Win 8.. :s It's as solid as Win 7 & even more.. :showoff:

- Metro Problemo? Fine don't use it..! You are not going to spend all your daily/whatever work on the Start Menu.. It's just a simple Layer..!

- People crying about the Desktop?! It's right there..!!!! :)

Quite true!!!

Glad they left behind the code, though - I'm enjoying the Windows 7 interface in Windows 8. :D

@ trancer .. why do i have to take extra steps to use my operating system though. did you watch the video in my other vids? mainly what other users are having problems with. not the mention the garabe mess of apps when you install programs. sure they will update it, but still, this says it all. double the work.

"Open sesame!" Some users said to windows 8 but no start menu shows on display.

They patch it right before the consumer preview of Windows 8.

I'm using StartIsBack to restore the Windows 7 Start Menu on Windows 8 (which is hidden.) StartIsBack does not run in the background as a process - hence, does not impact performance and also makes a big difference in perusing the much coveted Windows 7 aesthetic experience in Windows 8. ;)
