I am thinking of buying a Tablet, one of the two above, no previous experience of tablets.

Opinions based on personal ownership & use of the above two tablets would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all the contributors.

I doubt many people would be owning Samsung tablets. Cause from what I can understand, people aren't much interested in them as much as Samsung phones. I could be wrong, but my statistics say so.

On the other hand, tablets like Nexus 7, Kindle Fire have been sold like hotcakes (for the price). I know you are not looking at them, just saying.

IPad 3 without a doubt. I bought a galaxy tab 2 7inch a few weeks ago so I'd have something smaller just to read pdf's on and took it back after 2 days. My IPad pissed all over it, especially the screen and speed. Apple just have it nailed in the tablet world.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus and I'm quite happy with it. Personally, I'd avoid anything Apple-related. For one, they are overpriced, and I f*ckin HATE their operating system (iOS). I can never understand how people use it, but that's just me.

One a side note, AFAIK the Note 10.1 comes with a more powerful CPU/GPU (Exynos 4412 1.4GHz Quad Core + Mali-400MP) combo as opposed to the "The New iPad" (A5X 1.0Ghz Dual Core + PowerVR SGX543MP4)

Just bought iPad 3 and I'm pretty happy with it so far. Few problems are like that it cannot play MKV & FLAC files without being converted, that's the biggest let down so far.

Made me chuckle. :D

That exists from a long time. Fun thing, the time I had my iPod, even if I converted it with an external application, it wouldn't work. Tried all of them, making sure they fit the specifications. But no, only files converted within iTunes worked on my iPod.

FLAC and MKV - royalty free, opensource, etc.

ALAC (formerly) closed source, self made. And MP4 - Not royalty free, companies will have to be keep paying for the damn thing till 2027.

Which one makes more sense? Atleast they could have allowed the formats.

Avoid anything cr@pple simple as that !

I advice others to do the same, for more info on tablets head over to gsmarena as they have detailed benchmarks to some of the viable ipad alternatives you may wanna buy in the near future ^_^

Nexus 10 (i believe) is rumored to come out relatively soon, so if your willing to wait, i would do so. Otherwise, i would definitly forget about both of those and go striaght for the Nexus 7, its a steal!

retina display of ipad 3 is stunning, but i prefer galaxy tab 10.1 for overall performance.

or if you want the cheap one, buy BlackBerry Playbook, i'm sure that it's not mainstream, hahaha

If you can afford the iPad 3, I'd strongly recommend it to you. However, it comes down to what you want as well. The best thing to do would be try out both (if any of your friends possess either) and make your own opinions about it. I'm not an Apple fan boy, but I do believe they did a good job on the iPad. Its smooth, fast and does everything I want it to except a few things like play FLACs, MKV, etc. There's more for nitpicking, but so far those are the two limitations I've encountered so far.

PS. I'm not sure if it'll help but if you want to see the screenshots, I can upload them.

Better stay away from PurplebeanZ's IPad - it might try to pee on your Tab, too:-

Thank you all for your contribution. :)

From my own research and comments here I get the impression that the main pros & cons are as follows:

ipad3 - Pros: Superior Full HD screen, slightly nicer looking kit.

Cons: Inflexible, compatible with Apple apps & products only. No external connection.

Galaxy Note - Pros: Versitile with a USB port, not tied to one company's software, faster Quad processor, S-pen allowing true note taking/writing on screen.

Slightly bigger screen, better value for money (I think)

Cons: Inferior screen compared to ipad3, all plastice looks.

If any one disagrees with the above, pls let me know.

You should consider price difference (if any) in the equation, it varries from country to country so I can't help you there.

With all due respect to Apple owners , money is not ( never ) an issue ......! ;) ( ... and atleast for me ..... ) ,

and more so for anyone , intelligent enough , spending the bucks for a technology product .

Its all about what you get after spending .

If you want me to be a slave to 'that' silicon chip and be a part of all the arrogance , ignorance , retardedness , backwardness , silly superficial self contended attitude which comes in inherent with that piece , then i m sorry , its never and will never go down with me easily or in fact not at all ! -_-

I bought an iPad because I wanted to try something new, and I actually like the iOS. It has its defects, but it's not that bad as people claim it to be and doesn't deserve all the hate. Its pricey, and you're correct in saying that one could get a better deal, but iOS is a different experience.

Hey , i never targeted any particular Apple owner , and that means you too Tweety . ;)

Or for that reason , i too m a 'half' Apple owner . Had to by my lil sis the iPad 2 . ....

But in your own words -- " It has its defects " . !

So , if i am going for a 'pricey' thing , i will not tolerate any restrictions or boundaries , regardless of how good 'that' experience might be !

People claiming it bad or not to what ever extent , Apple shall always be a very 'bad' product to me .

Stated because of the very above said reasons quoted by me .... <_<

Quoting Again > Limited - binds the options , high priced , superficial , in no relation to technology and HYPOCRITICAL <

( ... its like -- " To taste this wine , please buy the bottle . OK , like it , please buy another bottle . WTF !!!! )

Well, then I suggest you stick with Android (in general). It's a very flexible opertaing system, and even more so when it's rooted.

@majithia23: Yes saw it today. :P

It is said that this is an Apple store in China. Apple fanboys say it's a translation mistake. I didn't know Apple makes translation softwares in addition to Maps? :P
