Minecraft creator slams Windows 8 again

Video game developer Markus "Notch" Persson, best known as the creator of Minecraft, has made no secret of his displeasure about Windows 8. In August, the indie developer said the operating system could be "very, very bad" for independent developers. Today he took an even more solid stance.

In a post on his Twitter account, Notch states Microsoft asked him to certify Minecraft for Windows 8. His response was less than enthusiast, as he tweeted:

Got an email from microsoft, wanting to help "certify" minecraft for win 8. I told them to stop trying to ruin the pc as an open platform.

— Markus Persson (@notch) September 27, 2012

Notch then followed that tweet by saying he'd rather not have the game on Windows 8 at all and that he hopes consumers won't switch to the new platform.

I'd rather have minecraft not run on win 8 at all than to play along. Maybe we can convince a few people not to switch to win 8 that way..

Notch is one of many game developers to voice opposition to Windows 8. Most notably, Gabe Newell, Valve's co-founder and managing director, has made multiple harsh statements regarding Microsoft's upcoming operating system.

Newell called Windows 8 a "catastrophe" earlier this year, and Rob Prado, an executive vice president at Blizzard, followed those remarks by saying Windows 8 is "not awesome" for his company, either.

Blizzard backpedaled from those statements a few days ago, with a senior software engineer at the company saying Blizzard has "no particular fear" about Windows 8. Newell, however, hasn't backed down from his statements; last month he said he believes Windows 8 will make consumers "rage quit computing."

I went to some trouble to wipe my new computer's disk and install Windows XP in place of Windows 7. I've heard enough about Windows 8 to convince me that trying it would be a waste of time.

windows 8 is great , you just have to learn using it. just like windows 7 before - vista and so on.

alwright the metro sucks (it could be better done) but technology does not stop and whe have to get used to it.

the first time i installed windows 8 - i did removed 10 minutes after installing it. now i'm running windows 8 as second os and now i'm waiting to have a license to use it as main os.

its a bit annoying not to have the start button and metro apps starting desktop to run. but if you run windows 8 , you see that's what they expected to do (run faster - no fancy windows etc) yeah you could install classic desktop - and other start button addons . but try it without that.(what do you do after windows is started) internet ? facebook - email ?

yes it is a bit annoying go from metro to desktop to launch another app. but if you use it you will understand it why.you can see it like this (metro) is a big screen off all programs you have there , so instead of pushing the start button you get a nice screen with all the apps there. (metro) sure it is not as whe prefer but it gos more the direction of all people that wanted a nicer view of all apps there. they could have made a button to get the old start button but why should they do that ? if they only want to make windows faster.

you could say il love windows 7 and vista sucks ! but as computer technician (pro user) i did say that myself why the f**k did they loose the start button - now you have metro as a big screen of start button (could be better done to loose app to desktop turn) but it is a total new os and it is very fast. and yes it is more like a phone button but it works very fast and yes whe have use to it. my 2 cents i love the date 26 october when it is there to buy.

just as windows vista came out (f**k) what is this . after some tweaking and so on and later some service packs there to solve the major problems it works great. yes when you are more familiar with windows 7 - then you say vista sucks. that is what whe have to wait for , a new os and some minor bugs. that will be solved by time. did you realize that they made something that will work with youre tablet - phone and tv ! without problems (???) whe have to wait to see it happen. otherwise windows 9 is already there in the corner to follow the new trend. i hope you give windows 8 a try just to get use of it. and to learn how fast you can work. if you buy later a lumia phone or windows tablet you wil see how nice it can be. (sorry for my bad englisch - im a dutch guy)

last month he said he believes Windows 8 will make consumers "rage quit computing."

Yep, my grandma tried to use my Laptop running windows 8 and she said "Son, I think a virus deleted your operating system and put in some horrid one. This 'Metro' was invented before I was born. Seems like something an <8> year old made"

I have 7 year old cheap laptop and Win8 actually works amazingly fast compared to clean Vista and Win7. XP is too old and has some things missing which on Win7, 8 improve overall performance and network speed, GPU, memory allocation, harddrive speed. I have shown my Win8 to 3 people and it didn't take long for them to get used to this Start button change. And hidden Charms bar (moving mouse to right edge) can also be disabled if it annoys.

Old Looking Start Button you can get back easily - if really so lazy do remove tiles and add programs to your Win8 Start menu. I have several separate rows, like two rows put together for Office programs ( unfortunately you can't resize them like shortcut icons on desktop and can't stick more than 2 rows together without messing up, 8ither 1, 2 or 4+, impossible atm to keep 3 rows only if want to organize things around to make Win8 start to look tidy.

And to shutdown just Win + I key or CTRL + ALT + DEL.

Weird move both from Microsoft and from notch.. Doesn't Minecraft runs on Java?? which is actually OS independant? so it probably runs on win 8 already...
