ande
Hello. If you use VMware Workstation you will notice that whether VMware is ON or OFFthere are 5 VMware services in background running always.Except 5 services there is also vmware-tray.exe process. There is no need for this 5 services and process if VMware is shutdown, and since they are all slowing down startup we can prevent this from happeningby setting services to manual and disabling( or deleting ) process using or msconfig or CCleaner. Here is how to do it :Fist go to "run" and enter "services.msc".Then set VMware services to manual.VMware Authorization ServiceVMware DHCP ServiceVMware NAT ServiceVMware USB Arbitration ServiceVMware Workstation ServerIf you don't use VMware at that time you can also stop them from running. After that disable/delete vmware-tray.exe from startup.Restart PC. Administrator DKT27 Posted August 23, 2012 Administrator Share Posted August 23, 2012 I checked and it looks like I already have them on manual (I might have changed it :) ). Thanks for the guide anyway, atleast I know that keeping them at manual won't cause any problems. :POf course, this guide will be very helpful to all. As VMWare does have many background process even when it's not being used. :)

Lucent
Obviously no common user would use that services, but to share VMs over the network they are necessary. VMware Workstation Server is a nice addon to the whole program, it makes your home box remotely manageable by another VMware Workstation install, using NTLM authentication (your Windows username and password), a-là VMware Server 2.x. johndoe
personally, i had set these services to manual and then created two batch files (compiled to .EXE). what the first batch file did was, when i wanted to use vmware, start these services then start vmware. when i was done using vmware, executing the second batch file would stop those services then exit the vmware try icon. lemme know if anyone interested, i will share
LonePirate
I'd love that

"Manual" services can be started automatically by the given program if the services are needed. I don't know if Vmware actually does that, but if it does, then there would be no need to start them yourself (stopping them is another story, since I imagine they'll stay running unless stopped manually). Of more concern is the slew of drivers. Most if not all of those probably need to stay as they are.
johndoe
on random checks i found vmware started those services after i had set them to manual. creating those batch files gave me full control over their startup and termination ;)
