Microsoft usually releases new software updates for various products on the second Tuesday of each month, and August will be no exception. Today, Microsoft gave an advance alert that it will issue nine software patches for various products on Tuesday, August 14th. In the company's security bulletin, Microsoft gives the basics for each update, which will affect Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Exchange, Microsoft Server, Internet Explorer, SQL Server and more. Of the nine software updates, five have been labeled as "critical" by Microsoft. The company typically doesn't reveal details of what will be patches in its monthly updates until they are released. However, Computerworld.com notes that this month's update will include the first software update for any version of Exchange since December 2010; this update will affect both Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2010. This will also be the third consecutive month that versions of Internet Explorer will receive an update. Microsoft has previously released updates for IE every other month but recently changed that stance. This particular update will cover IE6 through IE9. Paul Henry, a security and forensic analyst at Lumension, claims that this month's IE software update will fix four specific issues with the web browser.
