Tweety.Abd
Hey!So I have a friend who bought a new laptop a few months ago. I were using the laptop its agonizingly slow. I were requested to speed it up just as it were running on the first day. On preliminary analysis of the computer I found no much software installed, no toolbars or other annoying wares, no additional browsers, Anti Virus was McAfee TP and was 203 days over subscription. I checked the msconfig to check the start up items and services, and most of them were OEM softwares, like Toshiba HDD software, etc. etc. The hard drive is nearly empty and the files are disorganized. I want you guys to help me out and speed up the laptop. I know of few tricks, like disabling start ups, closing unnecessary services, and all, but I want more tips and tricks I could use. The computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium, has AMD 5k series GPU, and has 2 GB RAM. The processor I is i3 1st generation.
SkyrimGuy
First and foremost you have to remove any malware. Run a scan with hitman pro, EAM, Kaspersky online scanner. Next I would get kaspersky boot disk and run that. Once you make sure that it doens't have any malware, run Windows update. Make sure that you install all the updates. After that I would run chkdsk and fix any errors that you find. You can then defrag the HD if needed. Then run ccleaner with both the file and registry cleaner. You might have to manually go in and remove some folders from the local disk. You then should be pretty good. You can follow black vipers services that can be disabled. Then install a free AV/firewall.

Download TuneUp Utilities for it's Turbo mode which kills unneeded processes, and Program De-activator.
calguyhunk
Couldn't have been a million years ago if it has an i3 processor. Those things were released in 2009 - at least the desktop versions - if I'm not mistaken. The mobile versions must have been released along with or after that ;)Anyways, clear out all the temp files, internet cache and uninstall all the unnecessary programs with Revo or Iobit uninstaller. Then do a registry cleanup with JV16 or ASC 5 with deep clean turned on. Once everything is cleaned, do a total HDD defrag with Auslogics or Diskeeper. Certainly the system drive at least.Disable all startup processes apart from your AV. Use services.msc to stop unnecessary services and change from "Automatic" to "Manual" the ones you feel need not start automatically.Go to the Task Scheduler and disable or delete all tasks you feel doesn't merit a pride of place in your PC :)Of course uninstalling McAfee and installing Avast or something cannot hurt either as Sl@pshock said :)And if nothing else works, the ultimate sledgehammer fix-all option is to re-install :P
calguyhunk
Download TuneUp Utilities for it's Turbo mode which kills unneeded processes, and Program De-activator. I'm not sure installing yet another program - that too one like Tune-Up that keeps adding it's processes to start-up and adds a whole host of services and tasks that keeps running in the background - is the way to go. You can kill processes from the task manager and deactivate programs from msconfig.exe and also from services.msc as I said :)
dave1998
After unistalling McAfee, ran ccleaner and defraged the HD, I would suggest you install Microsoft Security Essentials (which is free) and scan your computer for virus and malware. Utilise Windows firewall which is good enough for normal web serving.Google to find out what unnecessary toshiba softwares and services can be uninstalled which I believe they do slow down the computer
jimbojet2011
Just format the HDDownload Driver solution pack ( for installing automaticly the drivers after its formatted ).Cleaning isn't the best option!Install W7 or W8And make it your own laptop. This is the fastest and reliable solution I can reach youEnjoy the formatJJ
avmad
See if more RAM can be bought using Crucial scanner http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/Clean any infections.Uninstall software that came pre-installed, it's probably running all the time.Clean junk and run CHKDSK. Run sfc /scannowWhen it's cleaned up and cleared of crappy software defrag a couple of times.
pr1xsel
These are what I recommend > 1. Install Microsoft Security Essentials if lazy person and want something free. 2. Disable animations, fading and sliding also - right click on my computer for properties > Advanced system settings > Advanced settings 3. You can keep Aero put disable transparency, it slows down computer. 4. In advanced system settings > Remote - disable it. If don't use printer then you candisable that service also later on. 5. In System Protection you can disable it. Rare to find it useful and slows down computer. 6. Install CCleaner and uncheckmark thumbnail cache, Internet, Firefox, Google cache and history?, check-mark windows error reporting, hotfix unisntallers, log files.. or enable in Folder options - show hidden system files and then delete folders with KB names - these are update uninstaller backups which are useless and take space away imo. 7. Defrag harrdrive, use Perfectdisk to get bootdefrag and smart placement functions - places system files to good area on HDD before loading OS which sometimes helps a lot and isn't done properly with other defragmenters if you make bootdefrag... 8. Install ADBlock Plus to Firefox and Google Chrome with Easylist and Fanboys subscription list. 9. Add Fanboys Adblock list to IE ( Click TPL ) - http://www.fanboy.co.nz/ie.html 10. Check for updates and software updates and download display drivers manually. 11. Disable included software that runs during startup if you see no reason to have it running. 12. Reply back how it all went and if you see any improvement.
majithia23
plenty of good advice has been given by the nsane geek squad in the previous messages ,follow them , and you should have a faster and a better PC .in addition to these i would recommend --1> Run some HDD tests to confirm that the drive is in a good healthy condition and is not the culprit for this slow PC .its not strange for HDDs to fail even in the first few months of ownership of a PC . ;)2> Run some Memory tests . A faulty or troubling RAM might be causing this behavior .Again to be sure and remove any doubts .3> Check the core temp and see if the PC is working in comfortable temp range .most of the modern BIOS are tuned to throttle the CPU clock when the critical temp is reached or in other words when the system over heats . alitaher
Delete unwanted files When I say to delete unwanted files, I do not mean you should go around your computer and delete any file you do not want. In this case, I’m talking about the files that you have created yourself, and are totally aware of what they are. For example if you created a Microsoft word document and you no longer need it, and never will, then I suggest you delete that file. This is the kind of junk that clogs up your computer. You have to ask yourself, “Do you really need it?” Delete hidden junk files Hidden or temporary files are created without the user knowing. All you have to do is open files, browse the Internet, install programs, and more files are created in the background. There is so much happening in the background that most people are unaware of and do not know that this area exists. This is something you are going to have to learn about if you want to speed up your computer. Remove unwanted programs(this is very important) Are you one of those people that constantly download programs and install them onto your computer? Every software program you have on your computer is taking up space. It is not only taking up space, but it might also be checking for updates and connecting to the Internet. It also might be starting up when your computer starts up. There are so many good reasons why you should remove unwanted programs. Defrag to speed up your computer this is the most powerful way to speed up your computer Disk CleanUp Disk CleanUp comes free with Windows and will get rid of the rest of the junk files that you have misseed you could download the last version of it : site:http://dl2.soft98.ir sharecode:/soft/Disk.CleanUp.Wizard.2.1.0.0.rar password:soft98.ir(tipe it) Always pay for a virus program! By all means, you can waste your time trying to find the best free anti-virus program, but do you really want to risk it. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with a free anti-virus program. In fact I will recommend Avast as my number one freebie. However, even though this proved to be secure, it is safer to have the extra security features that come with the paid versions. Now days most new antivirus also come with a firewall that if they do not, Windows provides a perfectly good firewall for free. Over the past 25 years I have tested at least 10 paid virus programs and have ended up with Avast running on my computer. It does not annoy me, it is not asked be stupid questions that I cannot answer, and is not make me deal with difficult settings. I like a program that just does its job. Avoid multitasking with large programs If you’re anything like me, you will have 20 Windows open at the same time, with your Internet browser having at least 15 tabs opened as well. Yes I know it is crazy and I’m trying to reform. I have a lot of experience in multitasking and have realized that some programs cannot be open at the same time as others. For example you should not be running a large program like Photoshop or Pinnacle video studio, while running a virus scan at the same time. We all know what the right thing to do is, but we just can’t help ourselves. Use an external hard drive for backup Nowadays there is no excuse for not backing up your files! It is unbelievably cheap to buy an external hard drive or even a portable USB flash drive to store backup files on. Both these portable devices are simple to connect to the computer via a USB plug. Once connected, you will find the device if you go to your start menu and then press on computer. For older versions of Windows it will be called my computer. Update programs regularly Every program on your computer must be updated regularly. If you do not do this, you will find that you will get problems, guaranteed! Even Windows itself needs updating, along with any other applications and games, and even hidden device driver software. To see if your device drivers are performing properly you can go to the Control Panel, click on system, advanced settings, and then you will find device manager under the hardware tab. Upgrade your computer memory When you buy a new computer now days it should come with a minimum of 2 GB of memory installed. This should be okay for a year or two, however as times change, you will eventually need to upgrade your memory. Older computers are in an even worse situation. People are using old computers to do new things that these computers were not made for. Upgrading your computer memory and increasing your hard drive size can help speed up an old computer. When upgrading your computer memory in order to speed up your computer, there are two options, to do it yourself or get someone else to do it for you. If you are seriously hopeless with technical stuff, like my friend Deb, I would suggest you take it to a computer store for the upgrade. If you are willing to give it a go you can buy computer memory online (making sure you have the right type) and do it yourself. How to speed up my Laptop Although all of these tips above and below can speed up your laptop, there are some tips that can just apply to laptops only. All laptops built in the last 10 years make their batteries last longer by slowing down the computer processor when you don’t seem to be using all of it. Although this works great to prolong battery life, it means that your laptop runs slower when it runs off battery. To switch your laptop back into normal mode, all you have to do is plug in your laptop and the computer processor will run at full power, giving you 100% of the speed you expected when you bought the laptop. Install a program to do it all for you! Speed up your computer! A software program will not upgrade your memory but it will clean out all the junk files, detect Malware, delete unused registry keys you could download the last version of pc fresh ; site:http://dl2.soft98.ir sharecode:/soft/PC.Fresh.2012.21.rar password:soft98.ir if you like click the "like" icon below thanks for your view
