nsane.forums Posted July 29, 2012 Share Posted July 29, 2012 A new rumor claims that the Windows 8 RTM build could be ready to sent to Microsoft's OEM partners on Wednesday, August 1st, which is in line with the company's previous announcements. Microsoft has already said that it plans to launch the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) version of Windows 8 sometime during the first week of August. Now there are rumors that Microsoft could now have a more specific target day for the RTM release. During the latest Windows Weekly podcast, ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley said that, according to her unnamed sources from Microsoft's MSDN and TechNet services, the company could launch the Windows 8 RTM build to its OEM hardware partners as early as August 1st (her comments come around the 26:40 mark). Even with these rumors, we might get the RTM build a little earlier. Microsoft launched the Release Preview version of Windows 8 on May 31st, one day ahead of its previously stated schedule. It's more than possible that Microsoft could decide that the final version is ready and launch the Windows 8 RTM build ahead of August 1st but this is only speculation. Based on unconfirmed reports, the final build number for Windows 8 RTM could be as high as 9200. It's important to point out that Microsoft has not commented on any of these reports and likely won't. In fact, it may just put the Windows 8 RTM version on its servers for OEM partners to download with no advanced warning. Fools or geeks, Windows is Windows.2. Negative marketing is still marketing.3. Even pirates who never ever bought anything, not even humble indie bundle, might be excited by the $40 price point.4. Fast boot and claimed speed increase in many other things.5. People like shiny stuff.However, it failing chances are high too.1. Metro. I can go on for hours to explain my unhappiness with it.2. Not easy to get used to. Non-geeks will have a hard time. Hell, I had a hard time understanding Android ICS when I used it for the first time. Forget about people who still use Windows 98 style Classic Start Menu. :o3. Metro is not the only thing changed. I don't like new control center either.4. To reflect the above, the main thing missing is no Aero Glass, and probably no Aero atall.5. Massive app store restriction. M$ won't allow you to install any apps outside their store, which will never allow not so legal apps.6. It's touch targeted. Desktop users are ignored 95% of time while making Windows 8. As of now, what I know is, one needs some sort of certification. Also there have been strong rumours that M$ wants to make it walled garden. Yes Metro apps will be available through the store but standard non-metro apps will still be available and installble (without need of any hacks). On the RT version of Windows you can only install/use metro apps but on desktop version you can use both and you will have unrestricted installation/use of non-metro its as simple as that, and again if you think otherwise your an idiot or very naive. Yes Win8 is different to what we're used to and I myself didnt like the idea of it at first and it got on my nerves when first trying it but now I would find it hard to go back to Win7 for various reasons.
