Simple answer is...paranoid! :P

I say that because I never got a virus into my computer. ^_^

I scan only when I feel like, about once in two weeks, a bit lazy. So yea, a live AV helps my laziness. :P

Plus prevention is better than solution. :D

- Avitar, I believe.

I use antivirus because, it protects me from browsing harmful malicious sites, warns me if a pen drive is infected and doing so it prohibits all the possible damages or harmful modifications that could be done to my system without it.

Well, the damages and modifications done to the system can be repaired manually without antivirus but this will consume time and eat up the brain too.

An antivirus can't give 100% detection, it's true but it protects you from the most usual threats out there and to get infected by the unusual rare threats, you might be the luckiest one or had some enmity to some software programmer.

I don't fancy an AntiVirus program, either - have got the V6 running on the system as I'm beta-testing it (personally not too anal about it, though.) :dunno:

I think and I believe, that Antivirus in general are not really necessary, if you know the basic about surfing on internet, as well as common sense for downloading files, etc. You won't get infected. However, personally I use some security suite because I download and use hundred of software everyday, many of them are working by cracking method... I could be smart enough to download the clean and proper files for each of them, but I'm a human, and sometimes I can fail, like a boss, and it has already happened to me, so to avoid that chance, or at least to get close to the 100% successful ratio, I use a security suite, plus my knowledge to have a clean computer. Thats why.

As long as there's a virus, there will be an anti-virus. Be it online or offline.

Putting that aside, one of the most dangerous is ransomware.

It's a class of malware which restricts access to the computer system that it infects, and demands a ransom paid to the creator of the malware in order for the restriction to be removed.

Would you wait until it's too late to tighten your security?

It's just a safety net in case my common sense fails (be it due to tiredness, alcohol consumption or just plain stupidity).

A good defense is a layered defense and an AV is just a part of this :)

AFAIK, it's been around since 1996.

  • 3 weeks later...

I would not use common sense as the priority, but i like to take chances and see what happens

I never trust what's lying on the internet but if you do then it's always nice to have something to proof you right or wrong

just in case of malware or like that.

Yes well said and in my opinion if your into computers and spend much time on them and know what you'r doing then you don't really need an A.V
