Firefox 3.1 Beta Codenamed Shiretoko +Firefox Optimizer 2008

vcqwyt.jpg

Firefox Version 3.1 Codenamed Shiretoko,

Version 3.1, codenamed Shiretoko, is planned to include support for the <video> and <audio> tags as defined in the HTML 5 specification. Cross-site XMLHttpRequests (XHR), which would allow for more powerful web applications and an easier way to implement mashups, is also in planning. Native JSON DOM binding, a powerful feature for web developers, may also be included, together with full CSS 3 selector support. Firefox 3.1 will use the Gecko 1.9.1 engine, which includes a few features that were not included in the 3.0 release.

Version 3.1 Alpha 1 was released in late July 2008. Version 3.1 Alpha 2 was launched on September 6, 2008, adding new video support and enhancing the speed of some JavaScript computations. Code named "Shiretoko," Mozilla said it will be the last in a short series of alpha editions.

First of all: Don't download this...

Well, the beta installer anybody can get directly from the Mozilla's servers...

About the "Firefox Ultimate Optimizer"... All that it does is to fool the Windows Task Manager, not really making any optimization to Firefox memory usage...

It keeps running a command called "EmptyWorkingSet" that "hides" the memory used by some process...

It also increases your CPU usage by doing this...

If you want to check it out by yourself, try the "Firefox Ultimate Optimizer" and pay attention to the total amount of memory used by your system...

You'll find out that the only thing that changed was the firefox.exe SHOWED memory usage in the Windows Task Manager and nothing else...

It's only a FAKE created by a mexican dev some time ago...

Hope this information helps.

I apologise, if this is fake.

i use it, like it, and copied the download link and scanned the archive with AV, and posted it here. It was my honest attempt to be useful , thought others would like it too.

I apologise.

PS: some users claim this app to be useful (?)

It reduces the amount of the "Working Set" Firefox is using, but this should slow down firefox because the "Virtual Size" didn't change which means firefox will read more from the page file.

rashad is the only one to be totally right, it's not a fake, it's real, but it doesn't help, like rashad said. By emptying/clearing the Working Set of Firefox it will have to reload every byte from the HD again when used, this will slow down Firefox significantly! So my recommendation is not to use this and Uno I recommend you to remove it from your computer as well, it honestly will only slow down Firefox.

Because I am 100 % it doesn't work I will not let any other members think that this tool makes their Firefox faster, so I removed the download links. If you still want to try this and believe it actually helps, send Uno a PM.

Uno, you obviously meant this to be in everyones best interest, so thanks anyway :)

Ah, it was too good to be true.

Really hoping for a RC of 3.1.

Me too, I've been told it's much faster... I hope so :)

I don't believe in things like this, Firefox is fast as is, and your connection is as fast as you paid for. Nothing can change that, at least not in measurements that go higher than microseconds :towel:

Just not to let any doubt about what I said...

When I said "Firefox Ultimate Optimizer" was a FAKE, I meant it doesn't do what it's supposed to: reduce Firefox memory usage.

And I also said it would slow Firefox down instead. The only difference was that I mentioned the CPU usage instead of the disk access, what is a truth, too.

I just wanted to make a warning for those who didn't know the program, since I had already tested it. :-)

@Uno: I didn't question your intentions! Everybody who adds to the board as you did is welcome! And everybody here should thank you for that as shought did!

Regards! :-)

thanks shought and algalord for the kind words.

shought is the best mod i have ever encountered. i was fearing a ban. he instead say thanks for my attempt to post !! :towel:

was actually stupid that i have wasted the bandwidth , time and CPU usage of the many users who downloaded the app, and installed it, me included.

relieved to see, that shought removed the links, and have, with other users provided an explantion about the 'optimizer'

Don't worry too much about it :towel: .

Everyone makes mistakes... no one is perfect.

Besides, it would be unfair for you if you are banned over a single mistake.

Thanks for your kind words Uno.

And Bizarre is totally right, besides none of the mods, staff members or admins on this site would've banned you for this ;)
