Tweety.Abd
Hey!I installed K-LIte Codec 8.9.5 on my laptop, and now I'm facing this weird issue. The thing is, during installation I were asked whether to enable DXVA acceleration, and as always, I wanted it on. But there were quite a few new options which I did not know of before. I read the help file and it said that LAV DXVA2 was the best of all. Trusting the document, I selected the DXVA2 and installed it. The problem is, when I try to play a movie/video, it's blacked out and only the audio plays. When I disable the DXVA2 from LAV Video setting, it works fine, but when DXVA is enabled, it doesn't display the video. I've been using DXVA since I first started using the K-Lite Codec and never experienced any problems with it, until now. Can anyone help me out on this? I'm clueless. Here's what I've tried: - Reset the K-Lite Codec Pack (All codecs/settings) - Reinstall K-Lite Codec PackThanks!
rudrax
You should get Nima's attention regarding this problem..He has a very good knowledge regarding codecs.. And as far as I know, LAV and DXVA or DXVA2 are complete different things..They can't work together, I just suppose.
wdm
reinstal, choose reset to default settings and hardware acceleration set to ffdshow -_- ;)
Administrator DKT27 Posted June 26, 2012 Administrator Share Posted June 26, 2012 reinstal, choose reset to default settings and hardware acceleration set to ffdshow -_- ;) ^^ What he said. I will, however not recommend FFDShow's DXVA either, as it doesn't offer many options (not sure if it can run side by side of the normal one though, unlikely). If you like staying without many options but want better quality and speed, I'll recommend CoreAVC for H.264 (it of course offers DXVA2 or CUDA option). ;)

I'm not sure about what you say is true, but when you install the latest K-Lite Codec package, it offers you to choose the following: - None (Meaning no GPU acceleration) - LAV (DXVA2 Native) - LAV (DXVA2 Copy-Back) - Internet MPC-HC DXVA Decoder - ffdshow DXVA2 Me, as a newbie (I never saw these options before), I wanted to know more about each these settings and know which provides the best performance, I went to the 'Help' file and read about them all, and in the conclusion, it said that of all, LAV (DXVA2 Native) was the best and ffdshow DXVA2 was the worst, naturally I chose the LAV DXVA2 Native. reinstal, choose reset to default settings and hardware acceleration set to ffdshow -_- ;) I'd rather be running on my CPU than set it to ffdshow DXVA. But I'll say it works when set to ffdshow. reinstal, choose reset to default settings and hardware acceleration set to ffdshow -_- ;) ^^ What he said. Administrator DKT27 Posted June 26, 2012 Administrator Share Posted June 26, 2012 How do I run CoreAVC and what quality and speed improvements does it offer? Install CoreAVC with the guide here. CoreAVC is the fastest software decoder out there. Why we use DXVA, etc? To speed up the decoding at the cost of quality. CoreAVC at the other hand, without enabling DXVA, offers near DXVA decoding speed at no loss of quality. Also, when you use CoreAVC, the colour balance, sharpness, brightness, contrast, etc. all looks far more greater than unmodified FFDShow. On top of it, CoreAVC offers DXVA and CUDA option. How can I change the sharpness and other features you mentioned? CoreAVC > Help: Note: Picture levels cannot be adjusted when DXVA hardware acceleration is in use. Nevertheless, what I meant is that, by default it offers and is optimized at the perfect level of sharpness, luminance, etc. without any need for modifications like one needs to do in FFDShow. This isn't mentioned anywhere, but after some tests I found that the quality of the picture in CoreAVC was far more greater than in ffdshow (normal one). rudrax
CoreAVC is the fastest software decoder out there.Have you ever tried madVR? It's a hell beauty and open source..Not recommended for notebook users ('cz it uses 10-15% CPU while decoding, for which system heats up soon)..For notebook user DivX (not the full package, use the codec only) and coreAVC are very good.
