box
Most AV software will have something called "Real Time Protection". Just turn it off. You will most likely get a constant warning from the AV that it is off. Some AV programs just don't have this option. You also need to turn the first AV off before installing the second one. It is best, IMO, to install the first AV and restart the PC to make sure that it is working normally. Then turn off real time protection and start in Safe Mode (F8). Go into the Services and set the AV Services (may be more than one) to "Manual". You just don't want them to run while installing the second one. Restart normally and install the second AV. Restart the PC and make sure that the second runs normally with real time protection on. Then see if the first one will run in "demand mode" at the same time as the second. Of course, make sure the you do a complete backup of your PC. Windows System Restore will not help you if you messed up.Example of PC with Avira and NortonAvira:AntiVir Guard (real time protection) disable itServices: Avira AntiVir Premium Guard (Set to manual)Avira AntiVir Premium MailGuard (Set to manual)Avira AntiVir Premium MailGuard helper service (Set to manual)Avira AntiVir Premium Scheduler (must be in Auto and Started for the update to work.)Avira AntiVir Premium WebGuard (Set to manual)Norton:Real Time Protection (in the setting)Services:Norton AntiVirusBetween Norton and Avira, Norton must be the real time because of the way it was designed. Avira makes a good on-demand AV. I just did a test. Norton and Avira are installed with no problem. One more thing, don't be surprised if your PC crashed when you do an on-demand scan of many files using Avira while Norton is active. Also, Avira don't have to be running when Windows starts.
