I was installing Win XP 64 bit....stuck on product key screen....wen could not get past it....

restarted the system and put the Vlos 1.2 (linux amd 64 version) and wen it got to the manual partition screen...I found no partition.... one blank HDD....

Now I have a blank HDD with no partition....

So plz provide a few suggestions to get back my partition....

I think the 1st thing that I would do is fdisk /mbr....

Then I have downloaded a program named Active @ Partition recovery......

I have never used it so dont know how it would come up....

I have the data towards the end of the HDD so I believe I should be able to recover the data...

Any other suggestions...

just run "fdisk", no parameter, it should be pretty step by step for deleting and re-creating a partion

edit: i'm saying you might still need to delete the old partion. it's possible the file tree or whatever is still there (thus causing probs)...

I m trying to recover the partitions...

Creating the partitions would be the last resort....

no backup.... was just waiting to purchase DVD writer next month.... <_<

Personally I would have waited to back everything up first, before I attempted to perform such a task.

Try going into Administration Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management and having a look in there to see if all is well.

From: ftp://mirrors.hpcf.upr.edu/pub/Mirrors/Ge...wnload-i686.iso

Size: 421.8 MB (442,241,024 bytes)

From: ftp://mirrors.hpcf.upr.edu/pub/Mirrors/Ge...-gentoo-x86.iso

Size: 290.6 MB (304,674,816 bytes)

What is the difference between i686 and x86 builds?

I want to install on some extra Pentium II and III systems.

Note: I was reading an article the other day on Microsoft, something about how fixboot could solve it.

PowerPC is Mac, not i686. maybe i686 is for 64bit like AMD 64. Not sure, but i know its not mac.

I dunno exactly the difference. Its kinda like the i386, i486's etc.

i686 Processers include:

Intel

Pentium Pro

Pentium II

Pentium III

Celeron

Pentium 4

Pentium M

Pentium D

AMD

Athlon

Athlon XP

Athlon 64

Athlon FX

Duron

Sempron

x86 applies to all 32 bit processers
