Alanon
Well, it depends on the individual software. if you have Windows Firewall only, then do as rudrax and vusualbuffs told you. If not, you'll have to tell us your software in order for us to help. ;)

Micah J Berman
simplest way is to download comodo and add a file to the trusted applications, however if you dont have comodo it'd take just as long to configure your firewall to do the same thing. Suggest you opt for a 3rd party firewall. :)

grouchysmurf
You can use win7 firewall control. There is a free version available, and the site states "Designed for Windows 8/7/Vista/2008/XP/2003" http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/index.html <----website A screen shot as it is on win XP Pro.... I have seen this program discussed somewhere on this forum, but it was said to only be for win7, vista, and I think win8 but no one mentioned that it could run on XP. The free version does have limitations, but it will do program control. I now very much like my built in windows firewall, and have no need for a third party firewall. Alanon
Look N Stop can also be a pretty powerful option (IF configured properly) ;)
