Symantec to Acquire PC Tools

Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire PC Tools, a global provider of innovative software products designed to protect the privacy and security of Windows® computer users. The financial terms of the acquisition are not being disclosed. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the calendar year and is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

With the addition of PC Tools, Symantec will expand its consumer product portfolio to include award-winning PC utilities software and point security technologies. PC Tools will help Symantec expand its reach with consumers in new emerging regional markets and will bring an array of go-to-market capabilities that have been effective with consumers in many markets around the world.

"We are excited to welcome PC Tools into the Symantec consumer family and believe the combination of our two companies will provide additional value and choice for consumers worldwide to better enable and protect their digital life," said Janice Chaffin, Symantec Group President of Consumer Products. "By adding PC Tools, we build on the market-leading success of Symantec's consumer offerings and firmly position ourselves for continued incremental growth in a rapidly expanding market."

PC Tools will maintain separate operations within Symantec's consumer business unit, with Simon Clausen, PC Tools, Chief Executive Officer, leading the team and reporting to Janice Chaffin, Symantec Group President of Consumer Products. PC Tools will continue to offer their products under the PC Tools brand and serve its customers through its existing partners and channels. PC Tools is a privately held company headquartered in Australia, with offices in the USA, UK, Ireland and the Ukraine. Their customers are located across the globe and their products are available in more than 196 countries.

Dont Like Norton or any of their products, Nor PC Tools--They all suck in my book

I know when I still used Norton. Back in 2002 or so. It was ok then but around 2005 the products commit suicide every few days so I had to reinstall it again, again and again.

My experience with PC Tools isn't that much better too. They make some crappy products, but Cyberhawk (Threatfire) and their firewall aren't that bad.

I hope they don't buy a company that really means something to me.

Hello folks!

I have been using spyware doctor for almost two years now and the only problems

I got was when I tried to use the onguard shield."That" will slow down your machine

incredibly but once deactivated I find that SD is one if not THE fastest scanner out there.

I have tried (by trying I mean testing for at least a week) AdAware,Spybot,AntiSpyware Pro,

CounterSpy, etc... Some are slow, others update sporadically and others just don't play nice

with AVS or security suites.I got no problems while I was using McAfee (now thats crap lol)

and nothing whatsoever with Eset Smart Security which I'm using now.

So please stop putting down this great spyware remover just because you may have compatibility

issues or a pre-mesozoic computer.

I for one am not happy with those news cuz I have no love for symantec either.

Btw, I set SD to scan everyday and the only times I notice is when it pops up the "done" window.

No lags :D

I used this app with a 2.2 ghz 1G ram xp media center machine for a year and a half and now

its purring nicely inside a 2.3 ghz dualcore 2G ram xp pro.

Too bad it doesn't work for you guys :)
