I'm a bit curious, does Download Managers/Accelerators really work? When I tried one (can't remember which one), and it didn't change my speed at all. I'm running Firefox 3 on WinXP (and one on Ubuntu if there are better ones over there =P). Thanks for replies. :>

I don't use it mainly for the speed gain but for easy download of Rapidshare.com links (got premium). IDM open several connections (8 default, but can set it for 16) and starts download from diffrent points in the file at the same time.

And then in the end put the file together, so for me that downloads as RS premium member I don't need to have many connections.

From what I've read / understand it get the file faster if I already get a fast speed with only one connection because then for one thing it don't have to put the pices together when it's done downloading and it can more traffic for the file only, many connections needs more ACK-space etc, am I right?

If your connection already gets maxed out by one RapidShare connection then yes, you are right. You should compare the speed you get with a RapidShare download from one connection and with IDM. IDM is mainly useful for server where you get a max speed of 10% of your download speed per connection or something like that.

But it's really nice with the mark the links and and rightclick Download with IDM then Mark All - Ok and start the que in IDM.

A side note: "A-Squared" antitrojan program names the patch as a trojan though NOD32 and SuperAntispyware do not recognize it as such.

False positive :)

If you are in doubt with a file check it at VirusTotal.com! It uses 33 Antivirus programs to scan for threats. There's no rule for when something is a virus and when something is not, but when ONLY half the AV say it's a virus I dare to try it ;)

Not at all, it is the 'type' of packers-cryptors that has the patch and some of the antivirus find it as trojan.

P.S I scanned with NOD32 and it is claen.

Hmm that looks alarming?

Not even half did say it was a virus, therefore clean or a new threat, since it is a patch and most likely to be a false positive that is your best shot ;)

Well I already gone for it so but still :P

Believe me, it's a false positive and the patch is great ;)

Used it for a long time but still why do they even pack it so AVs recongnize it as a trojan?

One of the best patches I used because you don't have to browse to the file if it's installed in default folder. Just close IDM open the patcher click patch and exit ;)

It's not 'their' fault, it's the AV's that are being lazy recognizing everything packed in a certain way as a virus.

I thought I'd ask this as after testing this program out again, I have come to like it over Orbit Downloader... But I do have a few questions.

Is there an option that llows IDM to 'auto-quit' after DL's are completed? That's probably the only thing atm that i am not liking too much about IDM.

That's the only thing that is bugging me a little.

Oh also, for the Connection speed, wasn't too sure what to input there if my Max DL is roughly 500kbps (4MB connection) but I do hit 500 at times... So I wasn't too sure what to pick/ what custom value to put it.

Thanks.

^Oh another thing is... Is it possible to somehow 'auto-clear' the completed dl's?
