Correct CPU temp - PC Probe, or 'Speccy' etc?

Hi, I have an ASUS M4A78LT-M Mobo, with Win 7 Home Premium installed.

The supplied Mobo software 'PC Probe' gives me a totally different CPU temperature than 'Speccy' or other software of that nature gives me

PC Probe says CPU is 46degrees, Speccy says 61!

Anyone have ideas which is the 'true' figure please?

Screenshot should be attached, if i've done this right

Core Temp, HW Monitor.

I run aida as well...it's 'configurability' is second to none....esp for displaying important items in the system tray. Another good app for temps is TPU's RealTemp.

Thanks everyone. I used a copy of AIDA from good ol' TPB.

Confirmed what I suspected, PC Probe is lying, & giving me the MOBO temp.

My quad core runs at about 60 degrees C.

I did use Artic Silver when I built the beast, but used a stock cooling fan, would an alternative get the temperature down by much?

(AMD Phenom II X4 - Quad core, 3.2Ghz)

I use HW Monintor and it's pretty accurate, one of my favorite apps. :)

AIDA64 is listed on frontpage. :)

If you go by heatpipe based coolers, the temperature goes down atleast 15C of the stock cooler.

Sorry, this might seem off-topic.

But, if you ever try liquid-cooling, you'll never be able to go back to air-cooling. The drop in temperature through liquid-cooling is dramatic.

60degs? that seems a bit high.. have you tried searching for an updated BIOS for your mobo? maybe a newer build actually fixes the sensor discrepancy, if ever there was any..

Could you try with HWiNFO64 (that I use)

http://www.hwinfo.com/news64.html

and post a comparison of all the different Temp you got with all the programs?

So that everyone can have an idea about this kind of programs.

baring in mind I'm running 'ConvertxtoDVD' to burn something to DVD, this is what it gives:

That's just plain not right.. AMDs are known to run cooler than mainstream Intel.. even at 3.2ghz with my Athlon II X4.. i never reach those high temps.. probably, your heatsink is not really smack-dab seating right on top of your Phenom.. or maybe you've dabbed more TIM on the cpu than it needed, even for the accompanying generic HSF..

Any aftermarket CPU cooler is better than the stock cooler. And yes, it'll lower your CPU temp, I use one.

I'm even running Prime95 as of this writing, and my temps never go past 52.4degs.. again, either improper HSF seating or too much TIM, or both..

Are you running it OC'ed? Or at stock 3.2? If you're running it at stock, then the temp is way too high even for the stock cooler with or without thermal paste. What's your ambient temp? Also, what cooler do you use?
