Codecs are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video. The K-Lite Codec Pack is designed as a user-friendly solution for playing all your movie files. shought Posted June 8, 2008 Share Posted June 8, 2008 Depends on which output codec you select in ConvertX, if you want to convert to DVD then it doesn't change a thing, but if you first used .wmv(Codec: Windows Media) and now start using .avi(Codec: DivX) then you will get better quality. You might need it to decode the .avi files though... So if you're not extremely short of HD space i'd say why not install it, you don't 'have to' update it, you can just stick with this version for a year.
