Would I get better quality encoding if I installed this along side of ConvertX?

Depends on which output codec you select in ConvertX, if you want to convert to DVD then it doesn't change a thing, but if you first used .wmv(Codec: Windows Media) and now start using .avi(Codec: DivX) then you will get better quality.

I download mostly just .avi's, then convert them to dvd, so no need to install this?

Thanks for the reply (Y)

Yep, no need to install. You might need it to decode the .avi files though... So if you're not extremely short of HD space i'd say why not install it, you don't 'have to' update it, you can just stick with this version for a year. I don't think you'll see any improvement in your DVD's though. But since it just takes 45 MB of your HD space
