As title says, after installing a fresh copy of XP SP3 when I opened my d: drive I noticed that it looked like an image folder. This happened to me once befor can't remember how i fixed it. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you use the software Styler..... I had this problem once, use HijackThis to remove it, you might like to try....

I'm sure that it's perfectly normal, unless of course you mean it's actually a picture folder, i.e you get the picture icon in the bottom right upon opening it up. You should be able to resolve this by right clicking > properties > customise and ensuring the driving is set to All Files & Folders or something similar. I can't reproduce it right now as I'm using Vista but it should be somewhat similar.

What I'm suggesting is to see weather that would solve the issue... the issue is that you registry has gone some funny way in recognising hardware as to what it is, therefore the best way forward is to re install/uninstall/install again via system ; admin toolls; ....

  • 7 months later...

after a chat that lasted more than an hour with a microsoft support employee my problem has been solved !

Tools>Folder Options>View>Reset all Folders.

Why reset all folders when you can just do it with one?

  1. Just go to Tools > Folder Options > View
  2. Click Show hidden files and folders
  3. Uncheck Hide protected operating system files
  4. Go to your Drive D:
  5. Delete desktop.ini

Once finished, you can hide files and folders and check hide protected os files again via Folder Options :)
