What is the fastest method to transfer encrypted data between 2 computers over the internet?

I want to transfer large files from one computer to another over the internet, preferably encrypted.

What is the best method to do that?

I've heard of things like FTP if that applies...

you can simply put files in a folder on your hard drive that will sync with a webserver folder that only you will know the url .. https will work from anythere to anyone that has your private url.

Or install something like FileZilla FTP server.

You can compress and encrypt the files and then use FTP, you may use 7Zip (select LZMA/Ultra compression), FileZilla server and FileZilla Client for this.
