64bit patch was made specificly for .963

it may work but it doesn't have changes made in .966

Okay so what does that mean? Yes the new dll files aren't patched but what is the downside?

unknownasphyxiated

that is the function of having version number

its called improvement....

if you use older version dll, then it is better if you not upgrade at all

just use .963

it just a waste of bandwidth to download newer version but you only get what you've already installed

no offence :)

Yup. That patch wasn't made for 966 or any other future builds. Sure, it works, but doesn't mean it will work as new version. ;)

This, unless Diskeeper hasn't changed any files that the patch contains, in the new version. But I don't think it's possible for anyone other than the fix author to check.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have installed 966 (Enterprise) on multiple servers and used the x64 patch and noticed no issues at all. Also installed premier on a few desktops but not noticed anything either.

So has anybody noticed any issues/side effects when cross patching?

I just reversed the patch and it seems that it patches the .exe file and adds info to the registry. Apparently no .dll files involved to my knowledge. The registration and update sequence in the .exe is the same as the previous version, since it's just a minor update. The changes have occurred in the [non-registration affecting] libraries and entry procedures with a modified piecewise defined algorithm [that still has my head spinning...] Patch works on this build as well.

EDIT: quoted some important ppl so others can see this post.
