shought
Thanks for your help dumble! Can't promise i'll read everything but i'll look into it :)How much HD space does Ubuntu approx. take up?Another question, not related but just 'by the way': On my laptop and old desktop Windows XP Pro's program menu(Start--> All programs) didn't have this annoying 'scroll function' and now on my new PC it has. I mean normally when you have more programs than one screen height it just makes another row right next to it(right?). Well it doesn't do that on my new PC. Anyone has a clue about what i'm talking about and how to 'fix'(probably just ticking/unticking a checkbox somewhere) this issue?
dumble
dont know what your all talking about, but you can check at you start-properties.. youll find all options there.. right-click on your start-button, go to properties..HD-space;minimaal 10 GB.. (including all programs etc. etc.).. but if you have enough i will start with 15 GB

Ah well nvm, i'll figure it out some day...I know about programs and stuff, but how much would just the installation of the operating system Ubuntu take up?Edit: Another question: Can i have Windows XP Pro SP2 x86 and Ubuntu x64 installed at the same time? (Question regarding the x86 and x64 being different).

Ask this at the ubuntu-forum... youll get your answer there.. can i use Ubuntu 8.04 - Final as live cd version?yes, just the download the desktop version = it is a live cd version.. it is verry nice, just see how everthing works, you can even go on internet, without installing anything! just put the cd in your cd-rom, boot from cd and youll start up.. it is slower ofcourse as when you install it on your hard-disk.. If you are in the live-cd there is a install button on the destkop, click that and you can make a dualboot or a complete linux installation.. whatever you want :)

dumble
ofcourse you cannot install linux on ntfs.. and ofcours you won't have to convert to FAT32Linux has his own filessytem.. ext3for example, you have a 250GB Harddisk with windows xp:C:/WINDOWS 25GB (NTFS)D:/DATA 225GB (NTFS)You use g-parted (or other partition software) and make your D:/ 200GB , so you have 25GB of "unused harddisk-space" , you put ubuntu live-cd in your computer, start from the cd, and you install linux on the unused space (use the guides if you want to know how)edit:/and when you installed linux on the unused space, you can acces your data on NTFS D:/ Data!! THAT IS GREAT!!
