TuneUp Utilities 2012 Error

Hey,

I'm unable to start the TuneUp Utilities 2012 (Main), every time I try to run it I get the following error:

I tried uninstalling it with Revo and cleaning up with CCleaning afterwards, but I get the same error message. I'd be grateful if anyone could help.

Note: This error occurs only when try to run the central program of the TuneUp Utilities, all other programs such as "Registry Cleaner", etc. works when opened separately.

Google says rtl120.bpl is a system file.

That is either currupted or Infected.

You can try looking to dl that file from somewhere and try replacing it.

Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure it is not infected, but it might be corrupted. I checked my system32 folder and couldn't find the rtl120.bpl file, but I do have one in TuneUp Utilities installation location. I'm not sure where I can download it from and where to put the file.

I ran sfc /scannow but it did not find any integrity violations.

Sorry for the late response. Here's the solution to my problem, I'd like to share it with you.

Step 1: Uninstall all versions of TuneUp Utilities from: Control Panel > Uninstall a program > TuneUp Utilities.

Step 2: Restart the computer.

Step 3: Download the following tool from Microsoft and install it.

Step 4: Follow the guidelines mentioned here before proceeding.

Step 5: Run the tool as Administrator. (Important, otherwise the tool will not install/function properly)

Step 6: After a successful installation of the tool, you should be able to locate it in your Start menu under the label 'Windows Install Clean Up'.

Step 7: Start it with Administrative privileges.

Step 8: Next, you'll see a list of all programs installed on your computer (Microsoft installer-based)

Step 9: In the list, locate and highlight the item entitled "TuneUp Utilities", and "(All Users)". It may have different variations, depending on your TuneUp version. Few variants maybe:

"(All Users) [9.0.xxxx.xx]"

"(All Users) [10.0.xxxx.xx]"

"(All Users) [12.0.xxxx.xx]"

"(All Users) [xx.x.xxxx.xx]"

Step 10: Click 'remove' button and confirm with 'OK'.

Step 11: Press Windows key + R to bring up the Run tool and enter the following command: regedit

Step 12: Now, delete the following folders in the Windows registry:

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER" > Software > TuneUp (completely)

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" > Software > TuneUp (completely - for 32-bit systems)

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" > Software > Wow6432Node > TuneUp (completely - for 64-bit systems)

Note: You might want to backup your registry before proceeding.

regedit > File > Export...

Step 13: Restart your computer and install TuneUp Utilities again. As an added measure, you may turn off your security software prior to the installation to ensure smooth installation.
