I'm using the speed disk from norton sys, but it sucked 'cause it uses too much time to defrag, and the window's defragger sucked 'cause its defragging is far from perfect. So i want you guys to help in telling me which software is the best in defragging, and how to get it  .

Again, as always, everyone is going to have their own personal favourite. Having said this, I've found O&O Defrag is one of the best around.

If you have access to Newsgroups, I posted a Verified in the Software section for this very app.

No best one...

O&O, Perfect Disk, Diskeeper are highly thought of.

However, the standard windows defrag (if you use win 2k+) is fine however. Its got a good algothrim...

O&O Defrag is definitly the best, however it can be confusing for non-experience users to get best peformance... PerfectDisk is good too and easier to use for everybody... (personally I use O&O)

I personally like Perfect Disk.. Gots the offline defrag option which is really sweet. I also tried O&O and Diskeeper before. They are good too.. But I prefer Perfect Disk. ;)

I'll add to that this....

Many others love the way Perfect Disk arranges files. You should try it for yourself.

If (like most users) you don't know about this sort of stuff.... forget i said anything ;)

Its a well known fact the Windows defrag tool is good.

agreed, and if used properly it's better than all the other apps ^_^

1. Disable your virtual memory paging files...

Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performence > Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory > Change > No Paging Files > Apply

...make sure they get deleted too (window washer and ccleaner delete em)

2. Reboot into safe mode, hold F5 (i think ;)) on startup, you'll get a prompt...select safe mode. this keeps alot of drivers, windows services, etc from being loaded, thus being locked and un-defragable. defrags should be a bit faster this way too...

3. once in safe mode just defrag, wait till its done, turn paging files back on and reboot normally ;)

it's also a good idea to run scandisk before defragging...

^Hmmm when you say confusing to Non-Experience Users (Which includes me) does it do something if 'set-up' right that makes it outperform PerfectDisk? Since that is what I use now... I wanted to try Diskkeeper 9 Pro but then coulndn't find any matches taht worked properly(Cant only get to Install and halts at the end)^

I have no idea how PD sorts files. ;)

@Nsane, yeah, I always run scan disk before hand. ;)

Never thought about safe mode and paging files though. ;)

Yes, O&O is more difficult to setup in a proper way. That's because O&O has several different defragmentation methods, and you've to pick the one that fits best how how you use your system (meaning you need to read the manual ect.). This kind of things make it more difficult for non-experienced users to setup the program in a proper way to get max peformance. Therefore I'll recommend PerfectDisk for them since this program just defrags without the need to choose in several methods.

I think O&O has quite a few defrag methods to choose from ...

for performance...

for arranging files according to names...

and so on...

Among Perfect disk and O&O would go for probably because O&O offers a little more options...

And I dont think they are very difficult to get used to....

I think Diskeeper is quite big and resource hungry for a normal PC...
