Marik
Over time people have complained how its hard to remove features in Windows due to how deeply integrated they are. It may have turned out that Microsoft has finally listened to these complaints. Evidence has it that Windows 7 is going to be made into modular OS making it possible to add and remove features, which could lead to Microsoft having subscription based features for users to add into Windows. You are already using a modular based OS if you are using Windows Vista, since its a OS that installs features based on the SKU you bought.Microsoft could allow for certain features to be removed upon installation of Windows, or allow for features to be added into Windows. Microsoft could charge for such features to be added into Windows allowing for one edition of Windows 7 to be released and have certain feature be added into it according to the user's needs. But don't get your hopes up for a one SKU version of Windows, Microsoft never liked having a single SKU for Windows and has said there will be multiple SKU's on launch.Source: arstechnica

I've heard Linux is way better than Windows. The only reason Windows is installed on more PC's is their marketing strategy... Promoting a crappy OS as the best works... voodoohippie
Wow a modular Windows that sounds great, but the 30 different versions of Windows doesn't sound good at all. I guess that Misrosoft has finally found out that Windows Vista is one huge flop what with the fact that many computer users of Vista have to run the damn thing in Windows Classic so that it doen't take 2 minutes for them to run an Mp3 player or worse yet how about just getting the thing to boot? Well with XP I can do everything I need to do and that is Copy DvD's, Listen and Download Mp3's, Yahoo messenger, Graboid(usenet), Word processing, Play Games, Yahoo messenger. So what is so damn great about Windows Vista? Its just eye candy to me and I can do that with XP with Window Blinds. So again what is such a huge deal that Microsoft has to force all new computer manufacturers to include Vista in its machines and not allow XP in them? I can say Windows ME II with vista can you say Windows ME III with this Windows 7 thing? Makes more users just want to go Linux or better yet go Mac which is something I ponder on daily. Only thing keeping me back is the fact that I'd have to get a Mac version or similar program to replace my Zoomtext and right now I don't want to have to go through the hassle. It's all connected :)
King BlackTiger
The POWER of WINDOWS are the appz. I like LINUX only because of the HKR appz & XGL that is my favorite.I hope that with the new MODULAR WINDOWS we will be able to install XGL or what desktop we want because its the best desktop for me. filenox
Why do you need .exe ?There are a lot non-windowsapps (for OSX and Linux) which works sometimes even better then the 'original'.Oh yeah, no virusses on Linux and OSX ;)And for the people who need some windowsprograms for work (or games)---> DUAL BOOT :)
