The nsane build of K-Lite 2.7.2 has a broken download link :(. I wanted to see if I could connect to anything... and also just to have for my own archives. :)

Of course i do. Why would you bring this up? This is really old news :P

I think really old news is an understatement! This is like 6, 7 maybe 8 years old haha.

Lite managed to stay out of it with his version of Kazaa Lite. But Muscleman and his buddies at KLite Tools always seemed to enjoy messin with us KLR folk. DDOS attacks, moles in the forums, lol pretty funny stuff in hindsight.

I actually still talk to ricky every once in a while, and I only talked with Mavol recently but it wasn't anything more than an email. The rest of the old crew I only see around these forums.

I don't remember the person's username, but I remember Ricky sort of handing the reigns of the KLR project to someone, and that person ended up like going crazy or something, lol. It was so long ago I don't even really remember what he did. He fucked shit up and everyone got all mad and it was all a conspiracy and shit, lol.

I wish myidisbb and other former FSP regulars would comment on this. I'm having some serious nostalgia right now, hahaha.

So what's the story? It would be interesting to know how you guys met each other and how NSANEPRODUCTIONS started - at least for peeps who enjoy nsane as I do. Well when I joined, it was nsaneproductions at that time.

A quick search of nsaneproductions and I could find links to http://n-sane.host.sk. Was nsaneproductions ever called n-sane?

Spill the beans.

And I think a topic could be made such as NSANE-history where founders could talk about pre-nsane and their motivation to start nsane.

Peace.

So what's the story?

Quite honestly I barely remember. That's why I'm hoping people like myidisbb, natedogg, chicano666 and goodness so many others that were at FSP in its "glory" days pop in here and comment!

Sometime along the line KLR included some additional software and/or popups from its start-page. Thats were the conflict started.

Oh yea that's right! People though it was in the software but it was just on the home page of the web browser or w/e, people complained when all they had to do was change the homepage (which most of us KLR "staff" wanted to do for the default build but the powers to be thought otherwise). Actually, I think I remember the explanation was that it was the only way to fund distribution of the p2p client, which is a fair claim but obviously non-auditable .

That may be how it started but I know there is more to the story than that.

I remember at one point Mavol (or someone he knew) tried to reverse engineer Kazaa. That didn't work, so we tried to build our own client from scratch. We all know how that worked out lol....

Does RedVIII ring a bell? Or Red Dog? I think I remember someone with "Red" in the name was supposed to take over as lead KLR developer once Ricky became too busy, and this "Red" guy did some shit that got everyone real upset....but I can't remember what it was!

There was a ridiculous amount of pop-ups at that time. At least 5.

I've never had pop-ups on any of my sites, because they are not needed (unless your a money grabbing douche).

Interesting...so that's what happened. I do remember their being an IRC channel about K-Lite. Really weird stuff went on in there.

Actually it was FTFakes who did most of the stuff. We did things together ;)

And on the KLR side I distinctly remember someone named NightCrawler who was heavily involved (although my memory could be misleading me), but who also faded away from the limelight just as FTFakes did for K-Lite.

K-Lite was a better, lighter rehash of Kazaa Lite. KLR and K-Lite Tools attempted to improve upon Kazaa Lite by adding a lot of nifty features. I felt the features were excellent additions. What those features were, well, my memory escapes me lol. But they were definitely great additions to that really helped the program. I actually remember you were able to make a request to MuscleMan of K-Lite Tools to customize the program's name to be your name.

And Lite is right, KLR had an absurd amount of popups going on. And I'm not going to debate the greed aspect as I definitely now see that as the more plausible scenario. As I said, it was impossible to audit. The owner of the site that ran KLR claimed that the only way to fund the project and it's distribution was through these pop-ups. The staff had no choice but to believe him so we defended the KLR start page against it's critics. In hindsight, as an older and wiser person, I see more of the greed point of view than the "this is what we have to do to not go bankrupt" point of view. Although, I still stand by the fact that all you had to do was just change the start page ;)

K-Lite actually wrote its features.

The others basically just re-hashed the old Kazaa Lite K++ and updated the installers.

Well there is no doubt about KLR/Tools just being re-hashed Kazaa Lite K++, but I feel they had way more additions than K-Lite did. I wish I could remember what they all were, but I seem to remember something about hash links, ip blockers, etc. Getting into an argument with you about this is a hopeless losing battle, but you know me....I must make a fool of myself

And what do you mean K-Lite actually wrote it's features? As in what features did you and FTFakes write? Are you saying that if KLR/Tools had an ip blocker, and if K-Lite had an ip blocker, that KLR/Tools just copied and pasted an ip blocker into the program, where as you and Fakes would have written an ip blocker from scratch and then added to the program?

And how was K-Lite any less of a rehashed Kazaa Lite than KLR or K-Lite Tools? Huh punk?

So I finally was able to get my password back for FSZ (formally FSP). I was surfing around the site, seeing what's changed and what not.

I went to the downloads section, they actually still offer KLR, lol. And then I discovered...GASP....they also offer K-Lite! The funny thing? Under developer for K-Lite it says FSZ ;)

lol

http://filesharingz....wnloads/k_lite/

edit: ok ok I decided to read the description after I posted this and it all makes sense now. Lite's K-Lite required you to do two installations, and FSZ just made an installer that did both for you. I remember this now, it's all starting to come back to me..... lol. So it's not like FSZ was trying to take credit for something they didn't do (but it made me lol when I originally thought that. I need to fix my memory and quit smoking so much of that funky green stuff)

Ahh you like being a fool don't you? :P

Basically all KLR/ KLT are is an updated installer. All features and tools in these versions were already present in Kazaa Lite K++.

K-Lite wrote its own loader (khancer) and added several features (such as a fake file filter and several other usability enhancements). Plus it used (at that time) that latest official Kazaa version (instead of the very outdated 2.0.2 used by the others).

Thank you! I've downloaded them and stored them safely in my archives. The fasttrack network brings back fond memories.

If I can get it to connect, I'll surely share them :).
