Here's what i found.

Hope it works out for you.

A .PAK file acts like a .ZIP archive, it contains many different files within the archive, and can be accessed via the game it is associated with. Files within the archive are often read only. Note: .PAK files are used with many different Quake Engine games. - source -

More;

PAK files are commonly used to store data loaded by video games, such as Quake, Hexen, and Half Life; may include graphics, objects, textures, sounds, and other game data "packed" into a single file.

Program(s) that open pak files

Mac OS

Allume Systems Stuffit Expander

Windows

WinZip

VCOM PowerDesk Pro

Astonsoft Archivarius

Leinen Pak Explorer

Allume Systems Stuffit Expander

- source -

Seems to me you were trying to download a game-pack or level ? :dance2:

Good luck.
