I know I could get another lappy, but batteries etc puting me off, so anyone seen good deals/makes/specs/thoughts about/regrading?

TY!

Quite a bit, as did found myself "in a desert" without some Internet access (apart from phone) when travel. Even at home, some days, just can't be bothered to turn grand-gran daddy to check e'mail etc. To build another Lappy as done before... could would, but lazy for all of the palava lately

Atom not worth it ( unless you want it to take less space ), cheapest and best netbook with avarage battery life in Europe is with good enough AMD e350 CPU instead slow Atom <- bad CPU+GPU, wait for 2013 then maybe Atom better. In my country I can get 1. ASUS NBX53U 2. ASUS X53U 3. ASUS K53U which are 300-400 Euros. <- you would get more speed, more hardrive and ram space but probably you would need2 install Windows7 yourself which isn't that hard. Hopefully 64bit mode would squeeze more speed out of it depending on programs you use.

yeh.. I hear what you say-

still kinda buying something as I know it will struggle, I'd remind, that nearly accepting a bit of a slower sys for the sake of portability

I have considered (just for a short while) to wack together one lappy myself, but then dragg unnecessary weight of Rom drive and have need for a electric plug excessively...

kinda better

I didn't understand everything you said Atasas, but if you don't need this on the road, why bother with portable? Get the fastest desktop components your money can buy, assemble yourself to save money.

still looking..

above one- all is well, but open box  same specs almost as Acer 2 Posts above and funnily enough don't like the look of it, but then its a Lenovo- better name for such "machines"

if to be sensible and go with 10" screen, Atom might be near enough for most uses and definitely enough for Facebook , Youtube and e'mail'ing, while the price less of 2/3'rds of bigger stuff... is it worth that much money?

(on a cheap, as what that was meant to be)

Or as to go big time

choices, choices, choices...

I'd try the HUKD approach, if your not in a rush. ;)

Funnily enough I've dug up an old account- posted one of the last finds and lurking still on... problem with that sort of advice(not that I need one) specs get overlooked/not discussed as in member advice form, so might get "cat in a bag" or a lemon in a form as too weak processor or not new or else irritation

No real rush, I'll sneak around for a while before buying

The comments soon point out the lemons on there. Don't worry about that :D I got my laptop from here http://www.dell.co.uk/outlet a few years ago. Paid about £600 when it was in the store for over £900. From what I could tell it was brand new. But it also took a while to grab what I wanted. Not sure if they have what you want but worth a look.

Try to make up yur mind, size, capabilities you want it to have, time to buy and it's price your willing to pay. Buying just for looks and regretting what slow outdated stuff you bought next year wont be good at all. Sad that Europeans can't get new cheap stuff directly from China's factories and gotta envy whats available atm in US.

Got bad experiences with Dell myself, grandmothers laptops OS - Vista made by Dell didn't wanna update itself to sp2 and manual install ruined it and when I changed default account name then all her files where gone after 3rd restart lol, didn't wanna rename OS's Dell admin account name it seems.

well as for meh mind... nobody (even me) dont get it P

considering as how massive the difference in a price betwee £260- £160 kinda makes you think as really do you need powerful second netbook/lappy? and dilemma dont end there, matter of price falling as for item, that is just falling off "trendy" shelf.

Really, when you are home, how many times do you rip movies/ work on libraries or photos? even less on a secondary machine, so specs are not worth chasing after.? looks/battery life turns to be as important for such device.

As for US- dude! you always get better deals- stop complaining!

as for myself, still looking, just not relying too much on HUKD as reliant on somebody else to find you such deal, means you going to find it second... or it will expire just before you got to the checkout.

Let me help you, to help me, to get even more confused

The UK Clearance Center is a really old model and they make some strange claims.

Both the Argos ones are Netbooks.

The Amazon one is by far the best option of those.

yeh.... but, no.... but...

I'm still after netbook and new (batteries/size/dvd rom drive issues)- portable simple machine is I will go for, none the less deals found so far are soooo much better, than what would be offered for somebody looking of a cheaper alternatives in high street shop (or even evilBay)

few more being cosidered

you know, i'm pretty sure no where along the lines of me asking for some "deal" sites that are US based was there any form of complaining. Just because the states have better deals (assuming it is true), doesn't mean I want to spend more than I have to.

Whatever you do, do it really fast or wait more than few months. Read this. It's just a trailer, lots of manufacturers are having or are going to have a real had time getting HDDs because of Thailand floods.

It's your decision. My sis is asking for a cheap netbook from more than 6 months. She says all the people in the court have them / use them to make papers. I tell her that she can get one when it's really really needed, as in, when she starts practicing herself. She really doesn't need one right now, has no important use whatsoever. Just giving an example.
