Windows Vista Sp1 X64 Released

Marik

Recommended Posts

VistaLogo.pngMicrosoft has made an unexpected move and released the x64 version of Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista on Windows Update. Any user of Vista x64 should see Service Pack 1 pop up on Windows Update. This could mean the x86 launch of SP1 for Vista to be soon and be bug free.

Most people here have probably already got SP1 RTM but good news non the less.

Notable changes in Windows Vista SP1 Version 1.4

Published February 2007

SP1 also includes updates that deal with two exploits we have seen, which can affect system stability for our customers –

o The OEM Bios exploit, which involves modifying system files and the BIOS of the motherboard to mimic a type of product activation performed on copies of Windows that are pre-installed by OEMs in the factory.

o The Grace Timer exploit, which attempts to reset the “grace time” limit between installation and activation to something like the year 2099 in some cases.

With SP1, Windows Vista will report the amount of system memory installed rather than report the amount of system memory available to the OS. Therefore 32-bit systems equipped with 4GB of RAM will report all 4GB in many places throughout the OS, such as the System Control Panel. However, this behavior is dependent on having a compatible BIOS, so not all users may notice this change.

I am starting to think in Upgrading to Vista... hhhmmm...

Upgrade to Server 2008 and use the vista theme. You get the authentic vista theme with the speed and durability of a server!
