If you've been a gamer for some time, you've either talked about it, debated it, argued it, fought over it, or accepted it. Well, some haven't. According to the The Mercury News' gaming/tech reporter Dean Takahashi, Nvidia, AMD, and some other big names in the gaming industry plan to launch a so-called PC Gaming Alliance next week at the Games Developer Conference.Like you'd expect, the goal is to re-establish the PC as a viable gaming platform.Obviously, the reality is that gaming consoles offer a less powerful platform than the average PC. But that just points to the complexity of developing games for the PC: not only do the various components within a PC vary widely, but the performance ranges widely as well. Trying to develop a game with multiple rendering paths for as varied a customer base as possible is challenging, to say the least.
