AlienForce1
Two days ago I decided to reinstall the laptop:Firstly , I used Win7 + SP1 downloaded from a link posted in forum (msft.digitalriver...) -> I downloaded + installed all the updates offered by Microsoft Update -> I noticed with great displeasure that I had very high boot time (1:30) and shutdown (1:45) and the computer responded with delayThen I decided to use another DVD , Win7 , a disc downloaded in oct.2009 from a link posted in MDL -> took all updates (SP1 and the rest ...) -> now everything changed in better -> boot ~0:40 , shutdown ~0:12 , all the tasks are done faster ...Does anyone have a good explanation ? HX1
Have you checked the logs and or done any digging to figure out what is taking the extra resources or causing the issue.. Sometimes there can be a few problems in the Logs that need addressing... I did notice something similar to this between an RTM disc I had and another one.. but that is pre SP1
Ambrocious
Thats really odd. If you wanna boot up your computer an find out what it making it slow, try out a free program called Soluto.

I did notice something similar to this between an RTM disc I had and another one.. but that is pre SP1Unfortunatelly I didn`t look at all to the logs . I had installed that DVD also a week ago and the result was the same , the computer was slow , with slow boot and shutdown times . At that time I blamed BitDefender IS 2012 that was installed . But , two days ago I reinstalled the laptop only with Windows 7 and the updates , no other programs , so I could compare the two DVDs :1) Win7+SP1 Ultimate , downloaded (two weeks ago) from http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/...2) Win7 RTM , 2009 , the first leaked version from digitalriver... HX1
and the second one is the fastest right...You should let both of them be used fr a few days and see what happens when the systems finally settle down.. I am willing to bet that it has something to do with added features after release.. and the placement of some of the files within the HD.. and possibly fragmentation.. there are several issues that can be faced in this area....This includes and is not limited to the Tasks which are scheduled in the background and system maintenance... Once everything is dialed in and you optimize services.. and configuration to be lean and cover all security angles.. usually it will iron out.. as well as addressing those concerns in the Event Viewer.. I also like to Logging itself can play a role in this area.. believe it or not.. making all of the entries... Power settings... Many things to look at.. It isn't saying that it is true for all systems.. but some can be...I would dial them both in a see .... Final installation setup can be altered .. so configurations on fresh installs can be different... Address some of the things I mentioned above and it may just wind up being the same.. MAYBE..
ck_kent
You could actually use the Event Viewer to check what's causing the delay in the boot-up. But I guess you're already using the 2nd one that's fast. Here's more information in how to use the Event Viewer to check on boot-up times: http://itexpertvoice.com/home/what%E2%80%99s-taking-so-long-how-to-fight-slow-startup-times-in-windows-7/
