SacredCultivator
I was just curious for those that like tweaking.Do any of you happen to tweak the settings for FFDShow (Video) to improve the quality of your videos? As I've been experimenting around but just not that great, so wanted to hear the opinions of the Members here to see what settings you may tweak and whatnot. Thanks, as I'd like to sorta take in all your feedback to see how I'd set my settings. HX1
I personally install ( I know this is probably a half-wit response pertaining to what your asking for.. so I am sorry but ).. K-Lite on 7 I think.. and keep most of everything on default except the thumbnail generation where I select everything.. I install the player.. and leave everything as is.. The only thing I usually do is reset the settings and allow it to search for broken codecs through the main tool.. I never alter any of them... I had played around a long time ago but culdn't seem to get anything better out of it for my low-end system..

SacredCultivator
Hmmm hopefully you're not mis-understanding as I mean the settings such as:DeinterlacingPostprocessingPicture PropertiesBlur & noiseEtc.
Knightmare
Okay so if I need codecs, I can just download FFDShow, right?
Administrator DKT27 Posted October 18, 2011 Administrator Share Posted October 18, 2011 This is all that I've done in FFDShow:You can enable luminance if you want. :)This may help you. I've tried all the blur, sharpen, pic properties, etc. but found that I didn't need it. I think it's all about personal preference in this. One of the reason I like CoreAVC (for mp4, etc.) is that I don't need to configure it to get the best results. But for the rest, there's customization of FFDshow. First understand, then do it the way you like it.This is just with FFDShow video though, have made lot of changes in FFDShow audio.
HX1
Okay so if I need codecs, I can just download FFDShow, right? It would be better if you just downloaded K-Lite Full.. Codec Pack.. You may not need everything in it ll of the time but it should cover most of the bases... I recommend it over some others available out there.. Just installing FFDShow may be an issue.. Windows 7 has an upgrade codec-wise over previous systems but the Codec Pack has much more and will allow you play more files.. THOUGH some players may already have their own.. and will still play files.. this will allow all programs to access those files and play/render the media.. So I should uninstall FFDShow and install K-Lite Full?
HX1
Technically K-Lite will include ( more than likely ) all codecs you will need.. so uninstalling those which you have installed already might be a good idea but is not a blanket statement fr all of them.. I actually had no idea of just installing FFDShow by itself..I have always used packs that install at the same time without interfering with one another or effecting other settings... So if your going for more than just FFDShow I would uninstall the individual packs.. and install the one.. easier to maintain as well.. and is actively developed..The only codec I have had to install.. was a Ligos Indeo Video codec for AVI files encoded by or with... This was in addition to K-Lite.. and the only reason I had to do this was for Winamp.. after installing Windows 7... It would seem that the particular codec is older and that AVI files used within the AVS Studio.. which are part of the visualizations.. and some of the other files involved would not react or work correctly without it.. My system would not render them.. after installation these parts began to work as usual.. and I could play them individually...There may be other considerations as there are many compression and file types, as well as containers in use and that have been used in the past.. Many programs with different configurations and different OSes which may bring other decision to light per your specific need.. but I usually suggest using and maintaining K-Lite. ( and even using Media Player Classic.. )
Knightmare
Yeah, I don't think I need all of the tools that come with it, just the codecs; I just ended up installing everything without the media play, so we'll see what happens.
SacredCultivator
@DKT27: You know what.. What changes did you make to your FFDShow Audio just curious?Or if you happent o have suggestions for just a 2.1 system, as I don't have not 5.1/7.1 surround sound. The issue I have with BluRay's is that generally the action scenes are LOUD but the dialog themselves tend to be much lower/softer. HX1
..could probably work that out with EQ or other Sound adjustments in your system.. could be the program used to run them as well.. May not need to adjust the settings unless all FFDShow Audio is this way.. it may be the method of down-mixing to 2 channels.. or improperly allocated.. Administrator DKT27 Posted October 19, 2011 Administrator Share Posted October 19, 2011 @SacredCultivator: I'm on just 1+1 speakers myself. Open FFDShow audio while playing a up/down noise media file. Then enable "Volume", in volume, make sure that "Normalize" is enabled and reduce Max Amplification to 100% or 120% if the sound is tearing after enabling Volume. You can enable Freeverb to have echo effects. Can reduce it's sliders to make it perfect (I myself have disabled it). Then I've enabled Crystality to give crystal like sound, you can disable it or reduce it's sliders if you feel it feels tearing. My sound card allows sample rate to 192000Hz so I've enabled "Resample" and set it to 192000, you can select 44100Hz as most sound card should support it. libavcodec highest quality and resample always. Then comes mixer, this (and volume) is what you are looking for. You can enable mixer, and select Output Speaker Configuration to 2/0/1 surround sound. I dunno how well the normalize matrix works, but it's important that you try. Then my sound card allows 24-bit integer, so I've set so in Output.Overall, you have to try and adjust all the settings to the way it suits you.Hope that answers all the questions. :)
