Windows XP SP3: a version RC2 sent to testers

While the version of Windows Vista SP1 has reached the status RTM, the SP3 Windows XP continues to be putting the final touches. Beta-testers of Microsoft received a new version stamped RC2.

Unlike Windows Vista SP1, a RTM (To Release Manufacturing) is not yet on the agenda for the Service Pack third of the name given to Windows XP, the Microsoft operating system released in October 2001, which is become the main competitor of his successor.

After a version RC1 (Release Candidate) said refreshed output in January, the 15,000 beta testers picked the firm of Redmond did indeed benefit from a tagged RC2 version of this famous SP3.

Still no date set for XP SP3

According to Microsoft, this RC2 incorporates the latest patches issued for Windows XP and meets the feedback of beta testers. The world's leading software does, but said little more indicates once again that the RTM version of Windows XP SP3 is scheduled for the first half of 2008.

Apart from the many bugs fixed via patches that Microsoft publishes regularly (more than a thousand bugs), the Windows XP SP3 introduce some new features as activation en masse in a corporate network (model Windows Product Activation), the ability to isolate users who do not comply with safety requirements of an enterprise through Network Access Protection, new encryption algorithms for the kernel and the detection of undesirable routers in a network.

Tests on the use of office automation tools have also reported an increase in performance of about 10% compared to a similar configuration Windows XP SP2.
