Forum Suggestion - Appending Resolution To The 1st Post In "Solved" Topics

Hi!

It's been on mind for a quite while and I've conceptualized it before I decided to post this suggestion. So I wanted to tell that it'd be a lot easier and helpful if the resolution in the "Solved" topics on 'Software Chat' be appended to the first post so one having similar problems won't have to go digging through the posts to find out the solution. I know that one can do so if one wants to, but I were wondering if this could be incorporated into the forum rules.

Note: I'm sorry if I said or suggested anything wrong. I just wanted to say what I thought would help the lots because I myself had to dig through the topic to find a solution and it took about 10 minutes. Eitherways, I just hope my suggestion is considered :)

Sincerely,

In my opinion this is a really good suggestion :)

If it's a quick fix (small post) it can be added (as a quote) to the first post, but if it's a longer fix or multiple posts then a link to the (first) post should be added ;)

We'll discuss this further with the staff.

Thank you so much for your consideration of my suggestion :) If it's a longer fix, we can just post the link of the post which contains the fix or just rewrite it in a concise way (if possible) and make it in steps (as in Step 1, Step 2, and so on.) I have a couple of more suggestions, but I'll write about them after I've given much thought about them. Thank you again :)

Yeah, I also really like this idea, it would help to find solutions much more easier.

Sounds like a good idea here too.. ALL too many times I spend hours looking for a specific problem to find the answer an hour after reading through 500 posts.. You would think going to the last one would shed some light on the matter.. but it doesn't..

Microsoft Answers does something very similar.. except one thing.. when you have a problem that is not solved by a solution that was thought to solve it.. It does not or may not get maintained as it should.. BUT anyway the post winds up marked and moved to the top of the responses... just below the question..

The issue is that Answers is configured to work that way, and not as a simple forum. Here, it would probably mean that a staff member or the OP him/herself would agree to nicely edit the first post with the solution. At least if we cannot find a more elegant solution.

We could ask members to reserve the second post for the solution when it is found or update the initial post with the solution themselves.

I mean they get free support for about anything over here, so I don't think it would be too much to ask of them to reserve the second post or edit their first post.

The benefit of having a reserved second post is separating the question from the answer, but then again a simple <hr /> tag could do the same in the first post...

Thanks for your reply. You said that members should reserve the second post for the solution, I didn't understand that part. I mean when we post again, it'll be the second post and continue so on, or do you mean editing the second post to accommodate the fix, which seems a better solution to me, if not perfect :) Thanks for considering my suggestion :)

Like okay..

  • You start the Topic.. Hit POST
  • Then You POST the first reply ( POST#2 )
  • Fill in with Reserved for Solution...
  • Then you come back and EDIT that POST and add the solution.. :dunno:

N' stuff.. :P
