this is about the DNS Client service in Windows 7. should i have to leave it enabled or disabled? been using OpenDNS and only configured in my modem/router. i then edited the host file with MVPS HOST. what do you suggest? Enable or Disable? which one is safer in your opinion? Thanks for dropping by.

the simple rule which i know is ,

if you are using Custom HOSTS file and your hosts file size is less than around 150 kb , just leave the service running ..

if the file size gets bigger , then you should Stop the DNS client service .

if the file size is around 300 to 500 kb , ( on Win 7 ) ,

let the service run ..

if you notice slow downs in browsing or in your computer , then

try Flushing The DNS cache and then seeing for the results .

if you still notice slow downs ,

then it would be better to stop the DNS client service ...

It may be a personal opinion.. but I quit using the SpyBot Immunization and Additional blocking using the Hosts file because it slowed my system way down.. Of course I did not try turning this service off so I am not for sure about the results there.. It was a huge file though.. even after optimizing it..

AND IF you use Tor at any point or another proxy.. be aware that your HOSTS file is bypassed usually... could mean several things for programs and security .. so on.. Just a note.. Some of us find out the hard way..
