Ubisoft has been rather quiet about Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the open-world action game set in James Cameron's Avatar universe, since the start of 2025. The title received its second and final promised expansion, Secrets of the Spires, back in November 2024, followed by a minor game update in December this year. Now, Ubisoft and developer Massive Entertainment have confirmed that more features are currently in development, but there's a rather long wait.
First off, the Avatar game is gaining a third-person camera to play the entire game with and explore Pandora from a new perspective. This will be a quick-switch option too, with players being able to swap between the original first-person and the new third-person camera using a button press while in-game.
This isn't just a new camera angle update either, as Ubisoft says it has reworked everything from animations to the Na'vi controls to make the third-person experience a fresh one.
"Whether exploring the Western Frontier, fighting the RDA, or simply taking in the views, Third-Person Mode brings a new sense of scale, freedom, and immersion," says the development team in a blog post. "The development team has reworked animations, controls, audio, and camera systems to ensure the experience feels seamless and intuitive."
Next, the same update will deliver New Game+ to the title. Like with other games, this mode will only be unlocked after finishing the game. When restarting the story with New Game+ enabled, all inventory and unlocked skills will transfer over. Massive is also promising "a brand-new skill tree and more powerful gear" in this mode.
"We've always envisioned Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora as a living world that evolves with our players," adds Omar Bouali, creative director at Massive Entertainment. "This update is a celebration of our community's passion and we're thankful to our players for their support. It means the world to our team."
The Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora update carrying these two features will land on December 5, just a couple of weeks prior to when the next entry in the movie franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is supposed to hit theaters.
