TV Time will shut down on July 15 after 15 years, citing unsustainable operating costs and low demand for a paid version.

TV Time, the popular entertainment utility that helps you organize, track, and discuss stuff you're watching, is shutting down about two weeks from now, on July 15, 2026.

According to an in-app message the company posted, the platform has become "no longer sustainable" because high operating costs plague the free model, and not everyone wants to pay for it. The notification thanked the loyal fans who spent years sharing their love for television and cinema on the platform.

After many incredible years, we've made the difficult decision to discontinue TV Time. The service will end after July 15, 2026.

While we loved supporting TV Time, it was no longer sustainable to continue operating the service as a free app and there was not enough demand for a paid app.

Thank you for being part of this amazing community.

    Happy watching, forever

TV Time has been around since 2011, under the name TVShow Time, and in that time, it has grown to accumulate more than 25 million registered users. In 2016, Whip Media acquired the platform, and the company rebranded the service as TV Time a year later.

Some of the features TV Time has gained in its 15-year-history include movie tracking in 2019, and a Spotify "Wrapped"-inspired "REWIND" feature that summarizes user watch statistics at the end of every year. The app also has custom shareable lists and home screen widgets to show upcoming episodes.

While TV Time blamed financial sustainability for the closure, TechCrunch argues that a shift toward AI at Whip Media (TV Time's parent company) probably drove the decision. Last year, the company unveiled its new platform called "Helix," an AI tool that automates back-office tasks like managing digital files, predicting show ratings, and tracking royalty payouts for streaming companies. Blue Torch Capital acquired Whip Media in early 2025 and immediately pushed for this new focus on AI, leaving the consumer app behind.

TV Time is currently allowing users to export their entire watch history via a GDPR self-service tool before all personal data is deleted on the 15th.
