The studio had been planning a big Siege of Orison event for this release, but that has now been pushed to August.

Another Star Citizen alpha update is ready for all backers to play. With $1 billion worth of crowdfunding behind it, Cloud Imperium Games is continuing its updates schedule for the in-development sci-fi RPG. However, there is a reason for Alpha 4.9 being a little lacking in content compared to the usual drops.

The studio had been planning a big Siege of Orison event for this release, but that has now been pushed to August with Alpha 4.10. Star Citizen Alpha 4.9 still has plenty of additions, including fresh missions, an audio overhaul for ships doing fly-bys, combat UI enhancements, and more.

Those jumping in will now find a suite of new repeatable missions on their mobiGlas devices, which bring rewards like exclusive blueprints and weapon components. These are set to be expanded upon with a fully instanced mission giver in the next update.

"A new set of repeatable missions from Recco Battaglia, an independent mining logistics coordinator based in Levski," says the studio. "Take on a variety of contracts including prospecting, mining, recovery, salvage, investigations, ship reclamation, and more, while building your reputation with Recco to unlock additional opportunities in Alpha 4.9 and beyond."

Pilots that like to dogfight will be happy to know that a new set of indicators has arrived for understanding hits, penetration, and damage on the fly. Check out the image below for the enhanced versions:

Cloud Imperium has also touched up the thunderous sounds that ships make when they fly by a player. You can hear some of this in the video above.

"Rebuilt from the ground up, these enhanced sound effects deliver greater positional awareness and richer audio fidelity," adds the studio. "Every pass feels faster, heavier, and more cinematic, whether you're in the cockpit or watching a battle unfold from the ground."

Other changes of this update are missiles and torpedo cargo holders for easy placement and tracking, balance changes for missions to account for ship armor, two new player hairstyles, and the new Behring "CQ7" Bullpup Rifle as an FPS weapon.
