  • "So awesome to see." Battlefield 6 dev says ex-DICE developers are coming back in droves — that bodes well for Season 2, REDSEC, and updates beyond

There's been "quite an influx" of ex-DICE devs returning to the studio to work on Battlefield 6.

Electronic Arts' and Battlefield Studios' new large-scale multiplayer FPS Battlefield 6 was expected to perform well when it launched in early October, but since its release, it's gone above and beyond all expectations. In the immediate days after launch, it accrued 750K concurrent players on Steam alone, and in its opening weekend, it sold over 7 million copies.

It's now been confirmed that Battlefield 6 is the best-selling game of 2025, as well as the best-selling FPS of the year and October's most profitable title. That astounding success can largely be attributed to the shooter's excellent gunplay and the fact that it's a return to form for Battlefield overall, complete with a traditional class-based structure, tons of weapons and gadgets to unlock, and a healthy variety of maps and modes to jump into.

Battlefield 6 is the best-selling game of 2025 and the most successful Battlefield title ever, which has undoubtedly

drawn many former Battlefield developers to return.

The implication here is that the quality and success of Battlefield 6 has encouraged many who left DICE to come back to the studio and work on the game. Notably, according to this exchange between Cambrand and a fan in his thread, developers that worked on Battlefield 3, 4, 1, 5, and 2042 have all returned.

This is quite exciting news for Battlefield fans, and bodes well for future content updates to Battlefield 6 as well as the free-to-play battle royale mode Battlefield REDSEC that's going head-to-head with Call of Duty: Warzone. These include Season 2 that will kick off in early 2026, and seasonal content patches beyond that as well.

Battlefield 6 Season 1 has had a mixed overall reception so far, with the launch of REDSEC and the FPS' new awesome Eastwood map earning high marks from the community, but its Blackwell Fields map and the limited-time Sabotage mode widely disliked. One more update for it, Winter Offensive, is coming December 9 and will feature a winter version for the Empire State map as well as some altered multiplayer game modes.

Hopefully with support from these returning developers, Season 2 and future updates will deliver more consistently high-quality pieces of content like the larger maps players have been craving, along with highly requested community features such as a server browser with persistent, official servers in it.

If you haven't tried Battlefield 6 yourself yet, there's a free trial coming out next week, so take advantage of that while it's around. The game is $69.99 across Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PS5, though with this deal on the Xbox version, you can snag it for just $61.99 at Loaded.
