Earlier in June, Bethesda revealed that it is currently in the process of readying two updates to its smash hit The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered project. Following the first one's successful launch, the company has now decided to bring the second planned update to Steam players via its beta branch again for testing, and it has a whole lot more fixes and changes.

The most major change is the additional difficulty options players have to tune their “Player Combat Damage” & “Enemy Combat Damage” options.

"Players can now select from 'Novice,' 'Apprentice,' 'Adept,' 'Journeyman,' 'Expert,' and 'Master' options in the Gameplay menu," explains the studio. "We hope the 'Journeyman' setting, specifically, will act as a better bridge between 'Adept' and 'Expert' for players."

Wonky difficulty scaling has been a major issue brought up by players since the remaster's launch, so this should be a welcome change for many.

As previously promised, improving performance is another major focus of this update. As such, Bethesda says that it has fixed frame-dropping issues in Deepscorn Hollow, Black Rock Caverns, Skingrad, and Bravil Castle, as well as improved open-world hitches. Optimizations have also been made to bodies of water, shadows, waterfall effects, weather, and animations.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered - Update 1.2 is out on Steam Beta today, with other PC players as well as console players gaining it at a later date. Bethesda did not say when it plans to launch the update out of beta. Find the complete changelog of the Steam beta 1.2 update here.

To opt into the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered beta update, Steam players can head into the game's properties, select Betas, and choose the [beta] branch to receive the new build.
