Arrowhead and Nixxes are working together to improve performance and stability of Helldivers 2
Arrowhead Game Studios has been delivering content updates to its live-service cooperative game Helldivers 2 since its launch in 2024. In recent times, it has also been focused on improving the technical side of the game. Today, it announced a new update that will focus on "stability, latency reduction, and advanced upscaling technologies" across all platforms, something widely requested by the community.
Up first are the upscaling solutions that are hitting PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms. Replacing the aging option currently offered on the PC version, Arrowhead will be implementing AMD FSR 4.0.3, FSR 3.1.5, Nvidia DLSS 4.5, and Intel XeSS 3.0 support for supported GPUs with this update.
Over on consoles, the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 are receiving FSR 3.1 support, while those playing on the PlayStation 5 Pro will see Sony's own PSSR 1 tech being used instead.
At the same time, the studio is aiming to reduce latency of the third-person shooter with the implementation of Nvidia Reflex and AMD Anti-Lag 2 technologies for supported graphics cards on PCs.
Apart from that, it is also bringing in technologies like Variable Rate Shading and Dynamic Resolution Scaling to smooth out the hectic gameplay further:
- Variable Refresh Rate (VRR): Now supported for PS5 and PS5 Pro to reduce any potential stuttering from V-Sync without screen tearing on supported displays.
- Variable Rate Shading (VRS): This technology intelligently reduces shading rates in certain areas of the image, decreasing GPU load while maintaining visual quality where it matters.
-
Dynamic Resolution Scaling (DRS): Integrated for both PS5, Xbox Series X and PC to maintain stable frame rates during more graphically demanding scenarios.
- Increased resolution to 1440p in the “Performance” preset on PS5 and Xbox Series X, as well as the “Quality” preset on PS5 Power Saving Mode.
These changes come as part of a partnership between Arrowhead and Sony's PC porting specialist studio Nixxes. Arrowhead plans to release this update to Helldivers 2 on May 27, 2026, across PC and consoles. The studio added that it has more improvements planned for further performance fixes, with a "dedicated tech-focused update" incoming later.
