Taking a break from all the grand Soulslike RPGs, FromSoftware released Elden Ring Nightreign earlier this year, offering a roguelike cooperative-focused experience. While the title has been receiving a steady supply of updates with revamped bosses and tweaks since launch, now FromSoftware is teasing an all-new game mode with even higher stakes.
Titled Deep of Night, the new mode will be an endgame experience for "seasoned players who have navigated through the Night many times," according to the developer.
Describing the experience, the studio said that when jumping into the mode, players will not be able to choose what Nightlord they will be facing like they can do in the regular runs. Moreover, the terrain changes that the base game touts for varied environmental effects won't be a part of this mode either.
As a twist, new types of special weapons named 'Depths Relics' will be found during these runs. These will offer extra effects compared to regular weapons but can also have detrimental effects that can be harmful to the player in some way.
"'Deep of Night' is a high-difficulty mode that provides a thrilling and challenging adventure," says the studio, describing the new mode. "We encourage you to try and see if you can surpass Depth 3."
It sounds like player performance while playing this mode will affect how difficult, or deep, the experience gets, with Depth 4 through 5 offering an endless fight to see how long squads can last. "The ratings will fluctuate based on wins and losses, affecting the 'depth,'" adds FromSoftware. "The difficulty increases the deeper you descend."
The Elden Ring Nightreign Deep of Night update is releasing on September 11 across PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
