Seasonal content has long since ended for Battlefield 2042, the most recent DICE-developed entry in the long-running shooter franchise. However, the studio had a surprise for fans today just as the Battlefield 6 open beta closed its doors, bringing a fresh update that carries a new map, weapons, vehicles, and more to the near-future-set title.

Battlefield 2042 update 9.2's biggest addition is the new map: Iwo Jima. The popular map first debuted in the series back in 2002 with Battlefield 1942 and has since appeared inside Battlefield 1943 in 2009 and Battlefield V in 2019. Now, it's time for some modern warfare to invade the island that involves an active volcano.

"In Battlefield 2042 the map will feature an active Volcano, so be on the lookout for some spectacle when you explore Iwo Jima," says DICE, describing the map in today's announcement. "To really immerse you, the new map also features boat landings, bunkers, and trenches on a reimagined 700x200 map that will give you plenty of options to flex your tactical muscles."

Next, two new weapons and vehicles have landed too. The infantry weapons are the bullpup-design KFS2000 assault rifle and the semi automatic anti material Lynx Sniper Rifle, which is already unlocked for Battlefield 6 beta participants. Meanwhile, the A10 Warthog and the SU-25TM Frogfoot have landed as brand-new attack jets for the All out Warfare mode.

A free Battlepass is part of the festivities too, bringing 60 tiers of rewards to unlock until October 7, ending just days before the launch of the next entry. DICE says the new rewards are inspired by almost every game in the series. Completing the new Battlepass will also unlock cosmetic content for Battlefield 6, letting players jump into the new game at launch with some extra bling.

The complete changelog for Battlefield 2042 update 9.2 can be found here, which also details a number of balance changes for weapons, vehicles, and more. The update is now available across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5. With Battlefield 6 launching October 10, this may be the final content update that hits Battlefield 2042 as developers switch to supporting the new title's post-launch plans.
