Even with all the Xbox reset announcements, Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition is now coming back to life.

The Age of Empires series has been back in a big way in recent years under Microsoft, gaining multiple Definitive Edition remasters, a popular sequel, and even the return of Age of Mythology. Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition was one of these titles before its updates came to an end in January 2025, canceling plans for an already announced DLC pack containing the Danes and the Poles.

However, even with all the Xbox reset announcements that are laying off entire teams and shifting IPs, Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition is now confirmed to be coming back to life.

The development team has announced that The Baltic Powers expansion is now back on the way, and it will carry two new civilizations, over 25 new maps, fresh challenge scenarios, new game modes, and more than 50 hero customizations. "More importantly, it is built around what Age III fans value most: new strategic problems to solve, new matchups to learn, new ways to master the map, and new reasons to return for a game they love," adds the developer.

The Danes and the Poles are the brand-new civilizations, with the former focused on naval control and layered defenses, while the latter touts its booming economies thanks to lowered building costs.

"In Commonwealth Charge, defend the Polish-Lithuanian realm against relentless invaders. Secure nearby villages, expand your resources and population, and time your Winged Hussar strikes to survive overwhelming pressure," says the studio, describing the new Challenge Scenarios. "In Havana Heat, lead a desperate Spanish defense against a British assault. Race against the clock to inflict 1,000 casualties while defending your Town Center, and control key beaches before enemy artillery can come online."

The Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition The Baltic Powers expansion is releasing on September 10, 2026. However, an open beta has already kicked off on Steam for owners of the game to try the new update and content out. The complete patch notes for the beta, which are massive, can be seen here.
