The third major leak of an unreleased game this week may have just happened, with piracy groups reportedly playing Subnautica 2 ahead of launch.

This week is not turning out to be a good one for new game releases. So far, at least two major games have had their files released to the public via unofficial sources, letting pirates download and play them before paying customers. Now, it looks like another game has leaked ahead of its launch, that being Subnautica 2.

The early access release of Subnautica 2 is slated to happen on May 14, 2026. However, reports of game files circulating amongst piracy groups are beginning to come out. The files seem to be fully playable too, with screenshots and videos popping up from the leak already.

Once again, what's unclear is where the leak originated from. The Unknown Worlds title opened up pre-orders and pre-loading for Subnautica 2 on May 11, 72 hours prior to the early access launch. It's unclear if this is related to the files being shared online. Keep in mind that any unofficial files downloaded in this way always carry the risk of them being altered by the party that's sharing them. The studio has not yet put out a statement about the situation.

Leaks of major games have happened more than a few times this year. Death Stranding 2's files were shared online a day prior to its release back in March, with the blame being put on a preloading blunder.

Then yesterday, most eyes were on the Forza Horizon 6 leak, with the open-world racer having been accessed by pirates over 10 days prior to the launch. Playground Games put out a statement saying the leak wasn't due to a pre-loading issue and that it will ban players accessing the leaked build. Meanwhile, the horror game Directive 8020 from Supermassive Games had also leaked earlier this week ahead of its May 12 launch.

Neowin does not recommend or promote using unofficial and pirated ways of game activation.
