Proton Technologies AG has announced proton.me email domain to help you send and receive emails securely. Although a premium feature, proton.me is now available for free for those who want a shorter form of email domain. If you have a ProtonMail account, you can now activate a free @proton.me address until April 30.

According to Proton 2022 survey, a shorter domain was one of the most requested features. And by making it temporarily free, the company appears to be aiming to attract more users to its platform. Google, Apple, Microsoft offer similar aliases. For example, you can use your [email protected] ID to create an [email protected] ID for free.

You can follow the below steps to claim your free proton.me email address if you have a ProtonMail account.

However, it's worth mentioning your proton.me ID remains free forever even if you don't become a paid subscriber after April 30, provided that you keep your account active. You'll also be able to continue using your regular @Protonmail.com address after activating the proton.me ID.
