    Windows users protest inability to move Windows 11 taskbar, begs Microsoft to reconsider

     

    When you upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11, some users may find some long-standing Windows features no longer supported.

     

    One of those is the ability to dock your taskbar not just to the bottom, but also top or side of your screen.

    Microsoft has confirmed this feature is being deprecated, saying:

     

    • Taskbar functionality is changed including:
      • People is no longer present on the Taskbar.
      • Some icons may no longer appear in the System Tray (systray) for upgraded devices including previous customizations.
      • Alignment to the bottom of the screen is the only location allowed.
      • Apps can no longer customize areas of the Taskbar.

     

    For most users this will not be an issue, but for some users who have become accustomed over years to have Windows their way the coming change have been quite worrying.

     

    On Reddit user TPGJosh is asking Microsoft to reconsider, saying:

     

     

    One commenter is saying “oh wow, this is a major deal breaker. Many people won’t upgrade just because of this, what where they thinking?” and another notes:

    I’m staying far away. Switch to Linux when mine stops working and get a gaming laptop for essential windows games and programs.

    Number of people rageposting they wont upgrade to 11 because you cant move the taskbar: 12

    Really you could insert any perceived grievance in my above formula, and the outcome would be identical

     

    The big issue is enforced TPM, which i expect will die before release, why would they lock out better than 70% of the userbase who either has no TPM chip, or cant get one (though scalpers are trying their best to hoard them)...someones going to end up with several $1,000's worth of chips they can't sell. And just on that, they were scarce before Microsoft made this bonkers requirement

     

    They wont be that silly, take my PC, its a Core i7-4790 based system that i just finished playing the latest titles on and still stomps them into the ground. Why would i bother with spending $800 on a new system just to qualify for Windows 11 (because TPM is the only thing that disqualifies it). Is Microsoft going to pay me to do that, no. Then think about all the people over 40 (and we have an ageing world population) that has no idea what TPM is. TPM requirement has to die, and will die before release. Or someone will figure out a better backdoor than replacing a dll from Windows 10 that doesnt check for TPM, as is currently being done, and it will be the Windows Start Menu thing all over again, where Microsoft is made to look foolish...

    A frankenbuilt Windows 11 ISO will do. Previously, someone can make a frankenbuilt Windows 10 LTSC and Windows 7, then Windows 11 can do.
