VMware has released updates for Workstation Pro on Windows and Linux and Fusion on macOS. The latest releases of Broadcom-owned hypervisors address security issues and several issues with network adapters and the snapshot feature.

If you use VMware Workstation Pro on Windows or Linux, you can update to version 17.6.4, which resolves four critical security vulnerabilities: CVE-2025-41236, CVE-2025-41237, CVE-2025-41238, and CVE-2025-41239. Also, there is a patch for CVE-2025-2884 with the moderate severity range.

The update also addresses a bug with the snapshots feature:

During a VM power-off operation, if Ask me is selected in VM > Settings > Options > Snapshots, a specific pointer isn't verified prior to back-end asynchronous function calls. As a result the pointer causes access violation, becomes invalid during the VM power-off procedure and you might receive the following error message. This issue is fixed in this release.

vmx [msg.log.error.unrecoverable] VMware Workstation unrecoverable error: (vmx)
vmx Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) has occurred

VMware warns that version 17.6.4 has three known bugs. One breaks the network connection when installing Windows 11 (switch network adapter from NAT to Bridged to mitigate it), the multi-monitor feature does not work correctly in specific scenarios (no workarounds), and hardware acceleration fails when using an Intel GPU on a Linux host. The latter can be fixed by adding the following configuration property and value: mks.vk.gpuHeapSizeMB = "0"

VMware Fusion 13.6.4 received the same security patches, plus two bug fixes: one for the missing internet connection in NAT mode and one for failures when uploading a virtual machine from VMware Fusion to an ESXi host.

Full release notes for VMware Workstation Pro 17.6.4 are available here, and for VMware Fusion 13.6.4 here. Note that VMware's update tools are currently broken. As such, users cannot update apps using built-in methods. To get to the latest version, you will have to log in to your Broadcom account and download installation files from the downloads section. You can also download VMware Workstation Pro from Neowin's software page.

As a reminder, VMware Workstation Pro and Fusion are available for free for non-commercial use.
