The first feature update for Vivaldi in 2026 is here. Version 7.8 is now available for download with a few very useful tab updates. Alongside the release, Vivaldi is standing up against AI in mainstream browsers, which, according to the CEO of Vivaldi Technologies, "filter what you see, decide what you don’t see, and ultimately outsource your judgment." Instead of injecting AI just for the sake of it, Vivaldi continues its focus on productivity features:

Chrome’s latest AI features can summarize articles, Edge can reheat plagiarised images, Safari added AI writing tools. While every major browser is racing to cram AI no one asked for into their products, Vivaldi’s approach is different: give users genuinely powerful tools, then get out of the way. Tab Tiling doesn’t decide what you should see, it gives you the workspace to see everything at once and make your own decisions.

With version 7.8, the browser receives the following:

    • Drag-and-drop tab tiling: You can create a split view by simply dragging a tab into the workspace. Vivaldi's Split view is not limited to just two tabs, and you can have as many as you want with different layouts.
    • Open link in a tiled tab: Vivaldi now lets you save a few clicks when creating a split view. You can right-click a link and open it side-by-side with the current tab.

    • Smarter pinned tabs: When you pin a tab, it becomes domain-bound. For example, a pinned Neowin tab won't let you leave the website, keeping your pinned tabs in order. Note that this is an optional feature and you can turn it on or off as you wish.
      Vivaldi 78 update
    • Cross-Window mail access: The built-in mail client in the Vivaldi browser now works across all browser windows.

Vivaldi 7.8 is now available on Windows, Mac, and Linux. You can download it from the official website here.
